Abortion breaks the commandment not to murder. But it is not the first commandment.
Catholics believe that from the moment of conception until natural death, each human being is endowed by God with dignity and rights.
You shall not kill. (Ex 20:13; cf. Deut 5:17)
Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you. (Jer 1:5; cf. Job 10:8-12; Ps 22:10-11)
My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately wrought in the depths of the earth. (Ps 139:15)
Early Church writings: You shall not kill the embryo by abortion and shall not cause the newborn to perish. (Didache 2, 2: SCh 248, 148; cf. Ep. Barnabae 19, 5: PG 2, 777; Ad Diognetum 5, 6: PG 2, 1173; Tertullian, Apol. 9: PL 1, 319-320)
With love in Christ.

absolutely- in the original text it was "thou shalt not murder". How could abortion be anything else, but killing the innocent?
for those who say, "you cannot murder the unborn"- interesting- a heart is beating, just because the child is not fully developed yet, does not make it "not a living human being". How about the newborn baby- he/she is not fully developed either. When a woman has a miscarriage- they grieve the loss of their child, not potential child.
granted rape is horrible- however why not punish the rapist instead of the baby. Adoption is always a great choice here.

No. My friend's mother was 16 and worked at a fast food restaurant and was working late one night when two men grabbed her on her way to her car and raped her. She became pregnant and her parents forced her to keep the baby who is now my friend. I would not give up my friend for anything, but her self esteem is so damaged by how much her mother resented her because she ruined her life for a long time. She still loves my friend, but she doesn't treat her like she does the child from her husband. It's personal choice and should be considered case by case and not as a blanket statement for all abortions. It should be available to those who are in trouble and carefully decide what is right for them, WITHOUT other people's judgments being brought down on them.

In accordance with the first commandment, abortion is a sin.
All souls belong to God and the soul enters at conception and the spirit -- the intellect of the soul -- occupies the earthen vessel known as 'the body' as well.
However, abortion is not the 'unforgivable' sin.

Just because there is a law saying abortions are ok to have....does not mean it is not murder. People chose to have abortions because they do not want to deal with the responsibilities of dealing with either a mistake they made, or a accident by rape or incest. Either way, the child is a gift from God. And only God is allowed to decide if someone lives or not.
People argue the 'fetus' is not human until its born, Well, look at the second the baby comes out....does it magically just turn into being a human, with a snap of the fingers? No.....it is human all along. And people use that fetus' are human to validate their arguments.
It's wrong, immoral, a sin, and against God's will to play God. It's not our job to decide this. If God gives us life, we should except it and find away to do everything in our power to protect it from harm, and put this baby in the arms of someone that will love this child.

the first commandment is There shall be no other godz before Me, Thous shall not make idols
Indirectly abortion is violating this since it is killing a person made in the image of God and Genesis reminds us that murder is disrespecting and insulting God because man was made in the image of God ,
clearly a fetus plays, responds to music, avoids pain, has memories that carry over to after birthday and developes gradually and continuously so reasonably it should be protected erring on protection earlier not later

Thou shalt not kill isn't the first commandment.
And besides, right after giving out the commandment not to kill, the Bible almost immediately goes into pages and pages of exceptions to that rule.

Yes definately. It is murdering. Technically we have the choice to do it, but we shouldn't. It doesn't give the baby a chance to enter the world and become someone. That's what's worse. The baby doesn't even get to have a chance at life and to expirience the world. It's really sad. Oh just so you know it's not the first commandment, but you are very brave asking this question since lots of people will get mad about you putting something in about religion.
