Yesterday it rained like crazy. Bout maybe a foot of water. My car is about that height maybe even a little lower. I didn't drive it though, I'm just curious if it would have damaged my car and engine. I'm a newbie. Been driving for 5 months. Will have my license on June 18th :) Thanks

Always keep your intake above water but no water will not harm the bottom of your engine as your engine and transmission should bothe be completley sealed off to water getting in it other than the intake and reserves. On the other hand the electric lines in your car can be harmed if too much water gets in them, so the rule of thumb I follow is nothing above the bottom of your door. A foot of water at a safe speed is not a probelem though.

On the other hand your not an extremely experianced driver and knowing safe speeds can be an issue ( I myself have Hydroplained over a foot of water) You're going to want to take it slow and easy. And NEVER do it in a potential Flash Flood situation!

If you drive fast enough to create waves in front of your car, caused by pushing the water with the front end of your car, and the water gets into your engine compartment it can either get into your engine and cause internal engine damage, get into the transmission and cause damage, or it may just get your ignition system wet causing your car to stall.

yes, a good way to judge the amount of water you can drive is to see if the water is above the top of your tires. If it is don't drive through it , it will damage your electrical system.

12 inches of moving water is enough to wash many vehicles downstream, often with catastrophic consequences. So in the worst case scenario, you could DIE. This happens dozens of times every year nationwide.
