I think the word "miracle" is only assigned to a subset of unexplained phenomena. Consider a hurricane that wipes out a town...some christians would not term that phenomenon a miracle. Other christians (albeit the minority) will claim it is indeed a miracle, since it destroyed a modern day sodom.
Miracles are not acts of god. They are labels used to denigrate or promote an agenda.

I believe miracles are acts of God whether capable of explanation or not. Take this example:
A mother looks out to see her toddler straying out onto the road and rushes out. Just as she gets outside she sees a large truck loaded with concrete blocks careering down the hill straight for where her son is sitting, oblivious to the danger. The driver is not on board so there's no way to stop it or steer it clear.
Realizing she will not reach her child in time to rescue him she cries out, "Dear God, save my baby!" At that moment the ground opens and swallows the truck.
The mother forever after believes it was God's answer to her prayer - a miracle.
Later workmen discover that there was a burst water main under that point in the road and it was only a matter of time before the road collapsed - the weight of the truck was the proverbial 'last stray'.
Even knowing these facts the mother daily thanks God for the miracle that saved her child's life.
Miracle or not? I don't know. My point is that if God intervened (even using natural causes) it is a miracle - whether one accepts it as such or not is a personal choice. I consider acts of God to be the norm and 'natural' rather than 'supernatural' - why should our short existence in this world be the measure of reality if eternity is quite different?
PS: I should add that my own approach would be to go with the more simple explanation and so I'd not suspect a miracle in the example I've given - that is not to say there wasn't one. My point is that explanations do not necessarily invalidate miracles but clearly they make them less obvious and harder to accept for purely objective observers.

A miracle might be an act of a god........
If one were to ever happen.
What are popularly referred to as "miracles" are the stuff of over-active imaginations, wild coincidence, and primitive people not understanding what they were seeing. We live in a rational universe. There is cause, and there is effect. Just because we don't know what causes something, doesn't mean the cause is miraculous, only unknown. And while plenty of unexplained phenomenon exist, that hardly qualifies them as miracles.

I don't know what it is about American society, but when most American's see things they can't explain, we choose to dimiss it and pretend it never happened. Mainly because in our society, if you tell someone about an event that happened to you that you can't explain, you will be regarded as a nut job. It's weird, 400 years ago the supernatrual was more socially acceptable than it is today. I think people are more close minded nowdays then they were in the olden days. But there is a bright side. We don't try to burn people at the stake to find out if they are witches.
I personally believe in acts of God and unexplained phenomenons

By it's very definition, miracles are an act of God, to suspend the natural law. There are quite a few unexplained phenomena out there that may seem like miracles to me, but that's because I don't understand the natural law forming it.

Miracles are not "unexplained" phenomenons...they are un-understood phenomenons.
Even the exact details of the plagues of Egypt were explained on the Discovery Channel a couple of months back.

Acts of God, all the way. Our very breath is a miracle -- from God!
