Well, what does the Bible say, after all, it is the only reliable source.

Where are the dead?

Gen. 3:19: “In the sweat of your face you will eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken. For dust you are and to dust you will return.”

Eccl. 9:10: “All that your hand finds to do, do with your very power, for there is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in Sheol [“the grave,” KJ, Kx; “the world of the dead,” TEV], the place to which you are going.”

What is the condition of the dead?

Eccl. 9:5: “The living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all.”

Ps. 146:4: “His spirit goes out, he goes back to his ground; in that day his thoughts [“thoughts,” KJ, 145:4 in Dy; “all his thinking,” NE; “plans,” RS, NAB] do perish.”

John 11:11-14: “‘Lazarus our friend has gone to rest, but I am journeying there to awaken him from sleep.’ . . . Jesus said to them outspokenly: ‘Lazarus has died.’” (Also Psalm 13:3)

Ezek. 18:4: “The soul [“soul,” RS, NE, KJ, Dy, Kx; “man,” JB; “person,” TEV] that is sinning—it itself will die.”

Isa. 53:12: “He poured out his soul [“soul,” RS, KJ, Dy; “life,” TEV; “himself,” JB, Kx, NAB] to the very death.” (Compare Matthew 26:38.)

What does the Scripture say concerning the 'soul'?

Gen. 2:7: “Jehovah God proceeded to form the man out of dust from the ground and to blow into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man came to be a living soul.” (Notice that this does not say that man was given a soul but that he became a soul, a living person.) (The part of the Hebrew word here rendered “soul” is ne´phesh. KJ, AS, and Dy agree with that rendering. RS, JB, NAB read “being.” NE says “creature.” Kx reads “person.”)

1 Cor. 15:45: “It is even so written: ‘The first man Adam became a living soul.’ The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.” (So the Christian Greek Scriptures agree with the Hebrew Scriptures as to what the soul is.) (The Greek word here translated “soul” is the accusative case of psy·khe´. KJ, AS, Dy, JB, NAB, and Kx also read “soul.” RS, NE, and TEV say “being.”)

1 Pet. 3:20: “In Noah’s days . . . a few people, that is, eight souls, were carried safely through the water.” (The Greek word here translated “souls” is psy·khai´, the plural form of psy·khe´. KJ, AS, Dy, and Kx also read “souls.” JB and TEV say “people”; RS, NE, and NAB use “persons.”)

Gen. 9:5: “Besides that, your blood of your souls [or, “lives”; Hebrew, from ne´phesh] shall I ask back.” (Here the soul is said to have blood.)

Josh. 11:11: “They went striking every soul [Hebrew, ne´phesh] that was in it with the edge of the sword.” (The soul is here shown to be something that can be touched by the sword, so these souls could not have been spirits.)

Good question, thanks. The dead are as if sleeping, waiting for the resurrection. Hope this helps.

When the time has come when one is preparing to die the material or lunar bodies return to the great reservoir all around us and the solar elemental returns to the great central sun in the heart of the galaxy where we spend some time before we all return back into incarnation to work out our destiny as souls. We are all on a long evolutionary journey towards becoming divine beings and this takes many eons to achieve.

All the evidence I've seen suggests that the body decomposes. And when the body goes, so too do all the things the body produces: the emotions and the feelings and the thoughts and the consciousness.

The body is corruptble
The soul is immortal
At the end of time, body and soul will be united again.
An immortal body and sould
That's what Christians are taught.

If you will take the time to look it up, body and soul are the same person. Bible says"The soul that is sinning, will die"

Well if your name is John, you body decomposes feeding the soil around it.
If your name is Bob, it doesn't
If you.........we could be here all night, stupid answer, probably but is it anymore stupid than saying "your soul is eternal and you will be judged by God etc...".

The accurate answer is no one really knows, man has created "opportunities" for the after life to enable him to deal with inevitable death. If there's a Heaven, nice one, a Hell, well we may as well all pull up a chair by the fiery lake and wait for everyone else, because if the Bible is too be believed, no f*cker is getting through the pearly gates

Body gets decomposed. Souls stay non-existent.

the body is an object of this earth so on earth it shall perish - and where ever the soul came from it will go back

Soul is the combination of dust and God's breath. God's breath returns to him and the dust returns to the ground. It is only by having remained alive in God's memory that a person can be resurrected (recreated) by God.

You are a spirit (look just like your body)
--You have a soul (second-mind, spiritual super-computer, your second-mind, will and emotions are in your soul)
---You live in a body (looks just like YOU, a spirit !)

When You (spirit and soul) come outta' your body, you will stand in front of Jesus

YOU (a spirit) will either have been RECREATED (born-again, saved) and Jesus will say "Welcome"
OR you will not have gotten Recreated (saved) you won't be able to Handle GOD's Power on Planet Heaven (if GOD flows through a LOST Spiritman, that spiritman will Cease to Exist, thats why you gotta get Born-Again to go to Heaven) and Jesus will say "Depart from ME".

Your Choice!
Choose Wisely!
