Are you looking for suggestions on breeds? There are a lot of medium dogs at the shelter buit if you are looking for a purebred, corgi's are great! Also cattle dogs, but they need to be trained as some have a mean streak. Small standard poodles end up at about 45 pounds. If you can't see yourself getting a poodle, maybe a labradoodle. Just make sure the breeder is extremely reputable and gets all their breeding stock tested, as with any purebred dog. If you are looking for breeder references, I have a ton up my sleeve so email me and I can get some to you. Good luck!

A Yorkie is the dog for you
They are very small
but so is their pooh.

Go to a shelter and get a mix
They are very smart
and can do lots of tricks.

I've run out of rhymes
but here's one more line
enjoy your new pup
and have a good time!

mini poodles...i know that poodle have received bad raps as froofy, snobby dogs...but you DONT have to give them that horrible poodle hair cut and they are honestly the sweetest dogs....they are incredibly smart and easy to train...i only suggest mini because you can hold and cuddle them easily...minis stay under ten pounds their whole lives and don't eat a lot of dog food....they don't shed but unless you want a big fuzz ball for a dog you need to groom them...the only trouble with that is their hair is so fine that regular electric clippers wont cut their hair..so i use to do it by hand with scissors but not i just suck it up and pay the groomer $40 bucks...besides, they make her look better then i did :)

Bichon Frise : hypoallergenic/doesn't shed!

*I advise you to thoroughly research various breeds and the potential dog(s) before getting it as it is a very important decision that requires a great deal of responsibility*

You can't beat a cocker spaniel or a beagle for having good dispositions toward all, including children, and especially if they grow up with them.
