What if the Atheist murdered in the name of Athesim?

Would you believe he's not a real Atheist?

I'm not suppose to believe that REAL Christians do horrible things?

Christians and Muslims love to play the "they were not a true" Muslim or Christian card to excuse the bad behaviors and mass-murders caused by their silly religions.

I really hate seeing christians saying things like this. It makes me angry and sad at the same time. While I was a new born christian I had an elder in the church question my salvation and say pretty much the same thing you're saying now. I really don't see the positive value in christians doing that to each other or to someone who was formerly following Jesus and christianity. You should realize that man can't see what is in the heart of another, but God can. And God should be the only one that would question where another persons heart is at. I like and respect you NCWJ but lately some of your questions have really been scraping the bottom of the barrel. I'm beginning to wonder if I had the wrong idea about you and is this the real you?

That would make no sense to me. Atheists follow no Atheism Code. There isn't a set moral picture of what a true atheist should be like. An atheist could therefore do just about anything without anyone thinking that he isn't living up to atheist standards or atheist principles.

Real christians, on the other hand, have a moral code of behaviour based on the character of Christ. If a person who claims to be a christian went out and killed 4 people, one would then be able to compare his actions to Christ's principles and then conclude hat he is not a real christian.

So, you are basically comparing apples and oranges.

I think that anybody who kills anyone in the name of religion is insane. An unsound mind, not a religious affiliation, is the issue in this situation. I don't see any justification for killing except in defense of life and limb or in defense of a child or other person unable to defend himself/herself.

Real Christians and people of fervent faiths of other kinds have done many, many horrible things. I don't know of atheists killing in the name of atheism on anything like the same scale, though Stalin's attempts to suppress Christianity in the former USSR and the current effort to suppress religion in the People's Republic of China come to mind.

I feel you man...

I always wondered what was with Christians burning innocent Wiccans....

Even if someone doesn't believe the same thing you do, why would you want to force your beliefs?

How can we kill in the name of religion?

Seems to defeat the point of being religious.... Like two ignorant children fighting because they have different imaginary friends....

I say to each his own... do what you will.. but harm none....

My cousin once said there are two topics of high interest that men/women can only read about but not speak of in a public place.... religion and politics...

Peace and love to you all!!!!

As the definition of a Christian is a person who follows the commands of Christ, any person who does not follow those commandments would not be a Christian.

As atheist have not have a commandment against murder as part of its belief, a person committing such an action would neither be doing or not doing anything that makes them an atheist. So it would not affect their atheism either way.

Your question is great. It's amazing how one's perspective changes simply by changing one word in a statement. I guess we'll just have to classify ourselves as "good atheists" and "bad atheists" so we can also distance ourselves from murderers. Our definitions for "good atheist" can be just as vague and debatable as the Christians'.

Christians have a written moral code in which we believe.

The day that the atheists have a written moral code that they are expected to follow, then you can use that argument. There are too many different beliefs about morality within the atheistic realm. Christians follow the Bible.

Good question.

The belief or lack of belief in a god is usually not a determining factor when considering whether or not someone would kill.

However, Christians will claim that a TRUE Christian would not kill people like that because TRUE Christians supposedly follow the teachings of Christ, one of which says not to kill.

Atheists, on the other hand, do not have to follow any specific set of moral or religious rules or laws, aside from laws set in place by the government. If anything, an atheist who kills people is simply a bad person regardless of his religious beliefs.

An atheist wouldn't say that, since a code of ethics is not strongly tied to the definition of atheism. Please don't misconstrue that. I'm not saying atheists can't be ethical. I'm merely saying a moral code is not required to be an atheist.

I think even an atheist would acknowledge that not all people who profess to be atheists are saints. The fact they're not a person with good ethics wouldn't make them not an atheist.

Do you follow me?
