Same here. The Blessed Virgin was the first believer in Christ and thus the first member of the Church. She trusted God and believed that Jesus would be the promised Messiah, so that makes her the first disciple.
And would God allow His pure, sinless Son to be born from tainted, sinful flesh? You don't put lillies in a rusty tin can, and you wouldn't send Christ into the womb of a polluted, sin-filled being. It only makes sense that God preserved Mary from the taint of original sin from her own mother's womb, just as the Church teaches. (The Immaculate Conception was pronounced dogma in the late 1800's.)
If nothing else, the Virgin Mary deserves our honor and respect for her fidelity, courage, loving heart, compassion, and faithfulness. She knew that she could be put to death for being pregnant out of wedlock, but she chose to take that risk and bear Jesus. She cared about the young couple at Cana and trusted her Son to take care of their needs.
And last but not least, she stood by Jesus as He was dying on the Cross, when all of His other disciples except one had deserted Him. She was and is loving and caring. . .I'm proud to be a member of her Blue Army here on earth. I only wish others loved and honored her, too.

Peter says that "He will not let his Holy one see decay" Psalms 16:10 is talking about Jesus not Mary Acts 2:22-28,31
"Seeing what was ahead, he spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to the grave, nor did his body see decay." Acts 2:31
Paul also says this is about Jesus in Acts 13:34,35
"The fact that God raised him from the dead, never to decay, is stated in these words: 'I will give you the holy and sure blessings promised to David.' So it is stated elsewhere: " 'You will not let your Holy One see decay.'
The verse applies to Jesus not Mary. There is no verse in the Bible indicating that Mary did not die. Just as there is no verse saying that Mary was without sin. It was INVENTED by the Catholic church.
No where in the Bible does it ever call Mary the "New Ark of the covenant." this is a false teaching. The ark of the covenant is a symbol of God's throne in Heaven. compare the description of the ark found in Exodus 25:20 with
Isaiah 6:1,2
Psalm 80:1
Psalm 99:1
Yet there is no verse even hinting that Mary is the ark of the covenant
Jesus did not consider Mary higher than any other sinful human being
"Who is my mother and brother and sister? Those who do the will of my father are mother and brother and sister to me" Mark 3:31

At the website for Catholic teenagers, Lifeteen, someone asked about praying to Mary. This is the quote. "The Catholic Church does not and has not encouraged folks to take their attention or prayer off of or away from Jesus."
Mary is certainly blessed of all women. But there is only one mediator and that is Jesus, her son. Mary was human; Jesus is God.
Edit: Midge, Lifeteen is most certainly a Catholic youth ministry, complete with Catholic summer camps, etcetera. Please find out about it before you dismiss it because you don't agree with it.
I rely on the Word of God, not the word of any human, and especially when the message conflicts with the Word of God. I can't recommend highly enough that you seek the Word of God, not men. It is, in fact, that Word that tells me she is blessed .... period.

Mary was the mother of Jesus. That makes her special in the sense that God picked her to bring Christ into the world. She isn't the link to the Father, that's Christ. Praying to her won't get your prayers answered. It is only through Christ that our prayers reach God.
Worshiping Mary won't get you closer to God. She was a woman, mortal, that God saw as a righteous woman who would follow what God needed her to do. She was submissive to His will. That doesn't make her weak, it makes her teachable. But that also doesn't make her a holy figure.
Respecting her for her role is good, but leaning on her for prayers and for worship isn't following the commandments.
Although I say this, it's just my opinion, and you have a right to worship as you see fit. Don't take it as an insult. Just take it as opinion.

Even Martin Luther -- the rebellious monk who was the catalyst for Protestantism, and the 30,000 (and counting) fractions and divisions of it -- had this to say about Mary:
"Mary is the Mother of Jesus and the Mother of all of us even though it was Christ alone who reposed on her knees . . . If he is ours, we ought to be in his situation; there where he is, we ought also to be and all that he has ought to be ours, and his mother is also our mother." (Sermon, Christmas, 1529)
Of course, with calvinistic and puritanical influences, this got buried pretty deeply ... to the point that, in some cases, Mary is barely acknowledged at all. "'Round yon virgin mother and child" shows up briefly at Christmas time, and only because her role in bringing Jesus into the world can hardly be sidestepped (if there was a way to do so, many groups would fall all over themselves to embrace it).
Having been on the other side of the fence at one time before my conversion to Catholicism, I think Mary just plain makes people uncomfortable -- they think that any honor accorded to her takes away from what is rightly her Son's, so even if they do respect her they are very careful to also mention "but I don't pray to her or worship her".
Referring to Mary as a "dead, sinful woman" is taking it a bit too far, though.

Jesus said, "I am the Way the Truth and the Light. None may come to the Father but through Me."
He made no proviso for His earthly mother. Here is what the Scripture actually says:
"Act 13:34 And to shew that he raised him up from the dead, not to return now any more to corruption, he said thus: I will give you the holy things of David, faithful.
Act 13:35 And therefore, in another place also, he saith: Thou shalt not suffer thy holy one to see corruption.
Act 13:36 For David, when he had served in his generation, according to the will of God, slept: and was laid unto his fathers and saw corruption."
When placed back in its proper context, it becomes obvious that the phrase that you gave out of context actually refers to Jesus, Himself.
Was she holy, yes, but no more than Moses or David or Elijah. She did, indeed, have the stain of Adam on her, just like every other human, save Jesus.
By the way, I took the verses directly from the Douay-Rheims Bible, which includes the Apocryphal books.

This is a Catholic belief.
Mary is not the New Ark of the Covenant.
Mary was a human woman chosen by God for a purpose.
We are not suppose to pray to her, or anyone one else for that matter. The Bible instructs us to pray to GOD in the name of Jesus.
God has made all of us "holy" who believe in Him. Not just Mary.

I don't pray to Mary, she is a human being NOT a GOD, get your facts straight...I only pray to GOD the father,, First commandment thou shall have no other God BEFORE the lord GOD, Mary was choice because she loved GOD< NOT because she is a GOD and I should pray to her, NO place in the bible does Jesus EVER say Pray to Mary..
So don't call others sinners cause they don't pray to Mary,, Know your bible your breaking the first commendment..

I'd like to see that verse, but yes Mary Died, and she was a sinner. For ALL have fallen short of the glory of God. So either Mary sinned, or she is your God.
I agree with lawrence that verse is completely out of context.
