I am totally appalled when reading this report . . .!!!

Were it MY child/adult???

I would definitely sue - and then -

NOT ALLOW my student to comply with the 'required' (arbitrary) eight hours of community service - in order to receive what they (and I) had worked 12+ years to earn . . .

OUTRAGEOUS control tactic . . . as one student said - with this policy, the attendees to a graduation would be able to manipulate an "unliked" student into an impossible situation.

It doesn't seem fair that the students are penalized because of what the unruly parents do. There should be some way to quieten the crowd, but this doesn't seem the fair way to do it. Some people do get too enthusiastic and noisy, but the student shouldn't have to pay for it.

I agree I read that article this morning and was sickened by that. I think if that child has gone through 13 years of school to earn it they should get that diploma regardless of whether there is a little noise in the stands. I think that is also ridiculous to not be allowed to cheer your child on when they have just completed one of lifes biggest milestones. And then to have to work some more to earn it? They have just WORKED 95% of their lives to get that thing. If that was my child I would be raising hell.

You know what - the parents were asked to be dignified and they were not, they signed a paper, so they understood. What about the parents whose child received their diploma after that child? They couldn't hear their child's name, that's not fair - and what if after every child goes up to gets their diploma every one of their relatives clap and cheer - gees what would that be like? It would be non-stop noise. This is a graduation not the freakin' oscars. I am not sure about the community service however for the child since the parents were out of line.

It's terrible! Unless someone is behaving in a way that is offending, they shouldn't deny them their diploma. Especially if it's their parents or friends cheering, not them.
