You can't grow the damage out. You'll have to cut it, if it really is damaged beyond repair. The smartest thing to do is to cut the damage off a 1/4 to 1/2 inch at at a time (per month) if you aren't comfortable cutting all your hair off and starting over. Not because trimming will help your hair any grow faster(it won't), but only to get rid of the damaged hair and the hair from splitting up the shaft.
The average human regardless of race/ethnicity/hair type grows hair at a rate between 1/4 and 1/2 inch a year, meaning the maximum that most people will get is 6 inches in one year. People think that straighter hair grows faster, but really it is the straightness that gives that appearance. Meaning 6 inches of straight hair or 6 inches of curly hair is still 6 inches of hair, but the straighter hair will appear longer.
So the answer is that if you have average hair growth and are able to retain it (meaning it doesn't break off), it would take you 3 years to get healthy hair to the length that it is right now.

Every ones hair grows at a different pace. But it will grow faster if you cut the damaged hair out and take good care of it from that point on, it will grow faster than keeping the damaged hair and trying to maintain it. GOOD LUCK.

1/4 to 1/2 inch per month it will grow, but if you get it trimmed regularly it's just going to break off at the ends and won't appear to be growing. So get trimmed 1/2 inch every 8 weeks

The average is 1/2 inch per month. It grows faster in summer and slower in winter.

It depends they have hair growth product that seem to work. But when you do cut it just make sure you trim it to keep it healthy. The healthier the better chance of it growing

It depends on your hair type. Drink lots of water and take Hair,Skin and Nails vitamins. You can get them at Walmar,CVS, Target or at a vitamin store. Also get protein treatments at a hair salon occasionally and keep up on trims
