You should regularly steam clean your carpet - especially in areas where you have high pet traffic. As far as eliminating odors elsewhere, you might try lighting different kinds of incense to rid yourselves of the odor.

my mother is a dog lady
really a crazy lady with a bunch of dogs
my little sister found that by
removing the dogs from the house for 24 hr
and pin saw'n or ly-saw'n everything down works. It got the smell out of the house,
if after cleaning the carpets and the smell is still in it then get rid of it!

Use a mixture of 1/2 white Vinegar and 1/2 water, scrub carpet (the vinegar will neutralize the smell) then dab carpet to get most the moisture off and use 1/2 baking Soda 1/2 peroxide (that will kill the odor).
Good luck!

There is a product called Simple Solutions that is sold at PetSmart. I love it! It really gets rid of pet odors. It is really great to put in a carpet steam cleaner. It is perfect for spots on the rug that are stained or smell due to pets. Very easy and quick to use! And the best part....it's totally safe for the dogs. If they lick a little off the rug it won't hurt them!!!

Ok definitely clean. The dog smell is likely in "fabrics" like your furniture or (heaven forbid you have it - ) carpet (yikes). If you have carpet have a professional service come in and clean it. If you let your dogs pee on the carpet, then tear it up and lay in new carpet cuz that smell does not go away. Finally you need to open all your windows and air out your house after a good cleaning like that. Dog smell doesn't cling to walls (plaster) or hard floors and stuff. It clings to fabrics. Good luck (I have two big smelly wonderful dogs myself - but my house don't stink ;-) Oh yea, give the doggies a good cleaning too.

Steam clean your carpets & rugs.
There's a product by Arm & Hammer, called Pet Fresh Carpet & Room Odor Eliminator. It is a powder that you sprinkle onto your carpets & rugs. You let it sit for about 15 min., then vacuum it up. It makes the room smell really clean. You can find it, in the store, by the other room deodorizers.

We have 2 dogs and we not only shampoo our carpets but every time we vacume we use those powder or rug fragance foams. They work great and it helps prevent the vacumes from getting that doggie odor. We also keep our dogs very clean. You would not be able to tell we had dogs.

Baking soda!
If there is a particular spot that is in question, sprinkle with baking soda, let sit for 30mins and then vacuum.
Other option is, get tons of "plugs in" throughout the house.
If the house is going to be shown, brew a pot of coffee and this will make the house smell great.
Oh yes, bathe your dogs, that will help and get a deodorizer spray for them.

We are going through the same problem.....................try baking soda on the carpet leave it for a couple hours then vacume,,,,the realator gives you warning before a showing, so right before you leave spray a ton of lysol as your walking out the door,,,,,,,,,,, and take dogs with you so they dont see them.. Our realator said "most everyone has pets, so the people looking at your house will understand, if they want it bad enough,,,,,,,,,,,,dog smell should not matter

use a ionic machine that will literally kill the smell, you can buy then everywhere now. They have specials on late night informercials. Sorry, I just posted a question, saw your question and had to answer.
See if a friend has one you can borrow. All smells go away.
You may to replace carpet, otherwise. Dog smell just doesn't go away.
Good luck,
Paula
