I wonder why anyone would want to but yeah ofcourse. Mental illness has just as much to do with chemical factors as it does with emotional, hereditory and environmental contributions. It is well documented that a healthy brain can become 'unhealthy' or imbalanced due to the use or abuse of drugs and alcohol, this can awaken "crazy chemicals" often provoking a previously dormant mental illness. Furthermore, the use of harmful substances often bring a great high for a short period of time but when coming down many experience severe depression. Substances also bring about a change in behavior not only causing some to be irrational in their behaviour but also somewhat intolerable to peers which may lead to isolation which leads to further issues.

Why would you want to go insane deliberately? Sorry I had to ask.

I am suffering from PTSD, Chronic Grief & Depression which causes a great deal of anxiety, panic and distress. I would not class myself as insane and I am receiving both medication and therapy to help me sort it all out. All I know is at this moment in time I am so sad, lonely, distressed and permanently upset. I cannot imagine anyone ever wanting to do all that deliberately. It is no fun. Just one long nightmare.

Besides taking substances that can alter your brain chemistry and perception, which most usually clears up, not really. Insanity is a legal definition that says the person isn't capable of distinguishing right from wrong, or can't participate in their own care. Mental illnesses can develop following traumatic events, but many respond to either medication, cognitive and/or behavioral therapy, and time.

Hi,

firstly there is no such thing as a 'normal' person because we are all unique and even what we consider the most normal of individuals can suffer from a mental health issue...probably not insanity. I doubt anyone would want to make this happen to themselves but I guess if you locked yourself in a cupboard for afew years, or put yourself through something traumatic, it could be possible but no one would want to make this happen to themselves! Suffering from mental illness can be so destructive!

Best of luck

Well, they can do chrystal till it comes out there ears, and commit a horrible crime that they would never have thought of doing in a million years...then when the drugs start leaving their system and they realize what a horrible deed they did, it will drive them insane...I say this, watching someone where we live destroy themselves in this way

Start by defining normal. We all have some bits of insanity in us. Insanity is a point of view by the "normal people" in the world. For instance, back in 1802 A.D. you would be thought of as insane for using a power tool to build something.
