You can do PWM quite easily with a micro controller such as teh ATtiny25 by Atmel

A 555 timer works well at moderate frequencies as a simple oscillator / pulse width modulator. Here is link to the datasheet with info on this. Hope this is helpful.

Use a simple one-shot multivibrator like a 555 or a 74121. Clock it with a pulse at a constant frequency and then vary the pulse width by varying the RC time constant of the circuit.

you can generate these signals with the help of microcontrollers like 8051 family. you would have to program them in C or assembly.

You would have to vary capacitance or inductance to change the wave form and if you wanted to do this within a wave and get really fancy, it might have to be done with a carrier unless you found a way to manipulate the particles that move around electrons?
