The Average worldwide temperature has risen over the last 50 years.

The average temperature has remained the same over the last 100 Years.

The average temperature has dropped over the last 20 years.

I can choose a block of 100 years out of the laf few thousand and move it forward and backwards a few years and change the average temp up or down.

How can it be said the Earth is getting warmer with such inconclusive data?

Their "proof" is that they require those who disagree with their hypothesis to disprove it. It's called junk science.

What they have is a correlation between measured temperatures and measured CO2 levels during this period of industrialization. The problem with that is the only time we've had the technology to make direct measurements is during the same period of industrialization. Their hypothesis does not hold up unless they can draw the contrast between pre-industrial (limited carbon emissions) period and the present period. All of the pre-industrial measurements and MOST of industrial measurements are indirect and rely on computer-modeling and probablity/statistics to align them with current findings.

As with most scientific research today, there is much cannibalization of ideas, with very few researchers working independently. There's a fundamental laziness to all of it, as well as plenty of room for agendas to skew the findings. Just 10 years ago, the majority of researchers did not find an anthropogenic link with climate change.

The whole shame of this is the politicization and polarization that environmentalists have created with what is ultimately a good cause: conserving the environment.

Their insistence that whoever does not agree with their data is ignorant, evil, part of an oil-cabal, etc. is offending and frankly counterproductive. It's like the Spanish Inquisition torturing non-believers for the good of their "salvation". Right.

EDIT: The NASA data you're referencing was a now admitted mistake. The satellites were simultaneously measuring the troposphere and the stratosphere. Once they got that sorted out, the data showed global warming. From NASA's own website:

http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/Newsroom/MediaAlerts/2004/2004050516955.html

END EDIT

The proof is in the references to these documents. If you want to see it you need to go to a library and read the documents, although the first graph is pretty interesting, and clearly makes what you say about temperature utter nonsense. Peer reviewed data.

http://www.ipcc.ch/SPM2feb07.pdf

It's (mostly) not the sun. See the graph and this:

http://solar-center.stanford.edu/sun-on-earth/FAQ2.html

Scientists and others have examined the proof and they're convinced:

"I wasn’t convinced by a person or any interest group—it was the data that got me. I was utterly convinced of this connection between the burning of fossil fuels and climate change. And I was convinced that if we didn’t do something about this, we would be in deep trouble.”

Vice Admiral Richard H. Truly, USN (Ret.)
Former NASA Administrator, Shuttle Astronaut and the first Commander of the Naval Space Command

There's a lot less controversy about this is the real world than there is on Yahoo answers:

http://www.worldpublicopinion.org/pipa/articles/home_page/329.php?nid=&id=&pnt=329&lb=hmpg1

And vastly less controversy in the scientific community than you might guess from the few skeptics talked about here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_opinion_on_climate_change

http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/full/306/5702/1686 and:

"There's a better scientific consensus on this [climate change] than on any issue I know - except maybe Newton's second law of dynamics. Global warming is almost a no-brainer at this point,You really can't find intelligent, quantitative arguments to make it go away."

In my personal opinion, we do not have conclusive evidence to say we are causing global warming. For all we know, this could be a natural phenomena that appens every couple thousand years or so. There is no evidence stating this sort of thing HASN'T happened before either.

FYI just a little more info. Cows produce 70 (or 75 % Ive forgotten) or green house gases threw the methane they produce

After reviewing your sources, I've come up with several conclusions.
1: Industrial revolution led to an easied lifestyle, therefore increasing population. With an increased population that leads to an increased need for a food supply, supplemented by an equvalent increase in cow population do satisfy our ravenous nature. The cow methane released is a greenhouse gas.
2: one of your references uses a study of the ice caps to determine if global warming has ever occured before, yet if it HAS the ice caps would have melted and reformed since then.

(qoute)you don't understand!!!!!!jeese!!!!i don't know where you live and I DON"T CARE. but where i live(midwest of the usa) the temparature is above average. around this time of year it like 60 -70. but know it like 80-90!!
(/qoute)

And how many other things were factored into this study? Is there research out there stating submarines, ships, and oil spills are causing this, not greenhouse gases? What about mining and drilling for oil? Couldn't that upset the Earth's core, causing an increase in techtonic activities, leading, to say, more underwater earthquakes over the last centry, causing tsunami's etc. On top of that, it could cause an increase in underwater geysers (the vents at the bottom of the ocean releasing gases from the earths core into the water).

There is evidence that climate shifts can occur very rapidly. It can be seen in a variety of sources. There is also evidence that pollution since the industrial revolution has impacted the world. Just look at oil spills (thats pollution). Climate shifts may be a natural event but pollution is not. Humans have dreadfully almost ruined this earth. The reason why people don't want to accept global warming as a big issue is because they are scared of the truth: that they HAVE participated in the deterioration of the ozone and helped increase the amount of trash and pollution in the world.

Ever since the year 2000 came and went with no significant event, the Y2K nuts have been looking for something to do. I'm ambiguous about the "Global Warming" religious fervor .... on the one hand, the Y2K fruitcakes have found something to keep them busy. On the other hand, it is annoying.

I think this time, you and I should just keep quiet and find a way to make some money from these nut cases.

The thing I think is funny is that people are trying to tell you that we know what the temperature was in 1905 to the hundredth of a degree. That's funny! Come on Trevor! That's just pushing it a bit. I love it when people will do anything to prove a point. Even if we are getting hotter by a degree how do people blame it on us with certainty?

Anything can be argued, theres always sceptics to argue the other side. if you've ever seen the movie 'thank you for not smoking', you'll see how easily misled we are.

The bottom line is we see what we want to see, there is proof, whether you believe it or not is up to you.

Even if nothing bad ever happens to earth we wont regret taking action now, but we will regret it if something bad happens and we didnt take action.

Sometimes we can have something starring at us right in the face and we still dont see it, we americans are great at that, its called denial.

The growing body of evidence shows that the sun is causing the earth to warm, not co2. The site below explains it better. Notice the graphs. There is a way better correlation between sun spots and temperatures than co2 levels and temperatures.

WHY DO YOU LIE ???
why have you not looked in the right places ,there is proof all over the world on local scales and there are millions of them ,these colectively affect the whole picture
why cant you understand that ????
WHY

Why cant people accept what is happening to this planet ?

Why cant they accept that we humans have caused devastating destruction all over the planet .

And not just for the last 50 years ,the Sahara used to be forrests (,but you cant deforrest on the equator because you cant replant under that hot a sun.It is now growing 7 miles per year burning the edges .
IN THE PAST
The building of Spanish Armada made Spain a dessert country as the Phoenicians deforested Lebanon for their trading fleet.

Ghengas Kahn burned everything(cities ,agriculture, forrests ) and filled all the wells with sand ,turning vast teritories into desserts.
TODAY
Large parts of the world are turned into deserts because of irresponsible farming, overpumping carbon Aquifers ,over grazing ,deforestation, all causing desertification.

I have been in the jungles of Oaxaca and discussed with the Natives the mountain before us ,Mostly deforrested ,scarred by landslides and dotted with madly steep corn patches (which only produced for 3 years ),and devoid of clouds.

They all agreed that the days were hotter ,there was less rain ,And the river was dry part of the year.

When they were boys ,the river was bigger and ran all year around, the mountain was always covered in clouds with daily rains .And the days were more bearable .

Their actions in the desperate plight to feed their enormous families of avarage 12 kids per family ,often much more ,had destroyed their home ground with indisputable climate changes.

In Africa I have seen lush wooded lands change into dessert within a few years by large invading comunities ,who devoured the trees for building and firewood ending up in a dessert with out water
and with a hot sun under which no new plantation was possible.

Granted the climatic changes are local ,but effects neighboring areas ,there is less rainfall, rivers dry up ,

BUT these things are happening ALL over the world and nobody can convince me that COLLECTIVELY this does NOT effect the Global climate
Global precipitation,Global temperatures,Global water supplies ,Global everything.

Millions of hectares are lost because of the roads systems ,expanding population and the resulting settlements.

Mexico looses half a million hectares per year in the quest for Ethanol and this is happening in Africa ,Borneo,Malasia, etc and will become much much more ,when America passes a new bill about the production of Ethanol ,

Replacing indigenous forrests wiping out all the wild life and bio diversity and replacing it with monoculture plantations grown with fertilizers that will only have plagues of insects as inhabitants, which will be combatted with Pesticides .The natural soil balance will be destroyed and contiued growth will only be possible with chemicals .

Is there no limit to the waste of money and natural resources in this insane attempt to suposedly save te Environment .

Humans ARE contaminating ,the Air,the Soil and Waters. This evidence is for all to see all over the world ,
And cannot be whitewashed with claims that humanity is inocent .

OVERPOPULATION puts pressures on all Natural resources and increases all the bad side effects of Humanity such as deminishing the overall bio mass and wide spread polution

Why dont they want to look after Nature ,it is where all the conditions that makes life pleasant and possible for us comes from ?Air ,Food ,Water to grow food and to make beer with ,and most of all a bearable climate ,not to mention the absorbsion of harmfull gasses.

Why dont they want to keep the neighborhood clean so their kids dont have to play in the trash ,?

Why do they want to kill animals ?

Why is it important whose fault Global Warming is?
If it was Gaia who is fed up with the virus infesting her ,
If the Sun is having a stroke .?
If God (Jehova) is having a tantrum?
If humanity caused it ?
If it is Natural regular phenomina?

Who cares ?
What is important is that we are in the poop, and if we can do something that will make the poop less ,we should try to do it

You need to go back to your source for the data because whoever told you that is yet another example of a climate change skeptic making up facts to suit their case.

The world has warmed over the last 100 years, the last 50 years and the last 20 years.

10 year mean temperature in 1905 - 13.71°C
10 year mean temperature in 1955 - 13.98°C
10 year mean temperature in 1985 - 14.13°C
10 year mean temperature in 2005 - 14.53°C

These are not the temperatures for the specific years but 10 year means. If I used data for spoecific years the difference would be even more obvious - e.g. in 2005 the ave global temp was 14.77°C

Here's a challenge for you - find any credible scientific evidence, anywhere, regardless as to who produced it, when, why or what for that refutes global warming. If you look at my previous questions and answers you'll note I've asked this many times and have never had a response. There is no credible scientific evidence that refutes global warming.
