I wouldn't buy one from the internet because you don't know how healthy they may be. Look around at pet shops, and don't rush into buying one. Make sure their eyes are clear(not goopey, or clouded) and if you do buy them from a pet store, preferabley buy them when their caged by themselves(less likely of disease).
I've olnly bought one from a pet store, the rest from various people who had litters, and they all seemed to be healthy as long as they got the right food and proper care.
Anyway, their the best ever! Hope you enjoy!!

Don't go to a breeder or a petstore. There are sooo many guinea pigs that need home in rescues. And there are some in GA too. Petfinder is usually an excellent place to start. The good rescues will have healthy pigs for you to adopt. You aren't "buying" them, you may have to pay an adoption fee for the rescue which is only a fraction of the cost they have put into caring for the pet. Also, they will know more about the guinea pigs personality and will help you find one that will fit what you are looking for. I have 2 boys. One came from a petstore and he was very ill and still has health problem from lack of proper care. My adopted boy is healthy and has had proper care for a good long while. Breeders do not neccessarily have healthy pigs. Why breed more when there are so many already here that need good homes?

Go to Petfinder again and find a shelter in your area. Pet store guinea pigs have a terrible track record for being sick, and if you start talking to the pet store workers in the small animals section, you can see very quickly that they don't know what they're talking about. I've seen piggies who had obvious cases of mites, and I've even seen a pregnant girl in a boys cage who had been mis-sexed.
The people at shelters keep a close eye on the guinea pigs and know the signs of illnesses. Quiz them the same way you'd quiz a pet store worker and you'll see the difference. They can also let you know of nearby areas where you can get hay for a good price (such as a feed store), as well as good vets in the area that specialize in rodents (which is important; vetrinary science considers cavies to be exotic animals).

Hi,
Guinea pigs are great little pets, but please don't buy from a petstore or breeder. There are some really cool piggies out there that desperately need a home! Try a local shelter or rescue.
This is the link to the shelters in GA I found on Petfinder:
http://search.petfinder.com/search/search.cgi?action=1&pet.Animal=Small%26Furry&pet.Breed=guinea+pig&pet.Age=&pet.Size=&pet.Sex=&location=ga&preview=1&scope=2&x=12&y=9
Good Luck!

I don't think that you should buy a guinea pig from the internet you should visit your closest pet store and then see if you like it. Because sometimes they can bite and they may never stand still or they may never move that is why you should go to a pet store to see. And also I had a guinea pig once to but he died from having no vitamin c in him. Because we never closed her bag of food and all of the vitamin c evaperated so just remember to keep the bag closed.

In my opinion, i think you should get one from a breeder, so you should look up guinea pig breeders in your area. Bred guinea pigs are much healthier because they are closely supervised for any signs of illness right from when they are born. So breeders are the best people to get one( or more if you get addicted to thelittle furry things).
Here's a link that may help you in your quest to find the guinea pig of your furriest, cutest dreams.

PLEASE don't buy a pet from the internet. It just isn't safe for the pet, and you can't see it it has any illnesses or something majorly wrong with it. DON'T DO IT.
