I had received this e-mail recently which claimed I had won a prize with my ticket even though I did not bought any lottery tickets online? Now they are asking me for my account information to 'transfer the funds' into my bank account! Is this a scam or should I proceed to give them my account information?

It first looks someting like this!

Your Email address attached to Ticket number: 56475600545 188 with
Serial number 5368/05 drew the lucky numbers:09,15,29 Congratulations, you
have just won yourself £150,000 in which e-mail addresses are picked
randomly by
a software powered by the Internet.
you are to contact our Financial Controller for Clearance.

E-mail:ukpaymentdesk01@yahoo.co.uk
you are to forward the following details to enable us clear your file
for immediate payment:
FullNames, Address,Age,Sex,Marital Status,Occupation,Phone
numbers,Country,

It's a scam. They sent you the notice that your e-mail address was picked randomly. Don't reply. If you do they'll send you a e-letter of confirmation telling you that someone else will contact you with more information on your "winnings." Next a "courier company" will contact you and tell you that you need to pay for shipping costs....that's where they take your money; there is no "courier company." I don't know if they'll use your personal information if you send it to them, but with identity theft running rampant...I wouldn't give them my info.

Don't give them anything. I have the same thing going on in my email. I must get 18 emails a day from the United Kingdom. They will ask you all sorts of questions, and for a small fee they will then transfer your funds to you. It is nothing but a scam.

Considering that the UK National Lottery is only legal in the UK and on the Isle of Man, unless you are a legal resident of one of those two places you'd be in clear violation.

They also have their own website and email system. They would not be using a free account like this scammer did.

Also, many countries in modern times make participation in foreign lotteries a crime all by itself.
