I have wanted to get a tattoo on my left lower hip for years. It will only be a small design, but I have been told that it will stretch when I get pregnant, is that true? And if it is, will it return to the way it was once the baby is born?

it can stretch but there is nothing saying that it will. I have a butterfly on my lower left hip. If you have wanted it then I say go for it. If it is a small design then I wouldn't worry about it too much. Forget what the others say about being a good mom or anything like that. They don't see that you aren't pregnant yet.

Ok, speaking from experience here, I have a tat on left hip and also one that is partly on my right hip and yes, they did stretch during pregnancy, but so did everything else! Anyway, 6 years later, the tattoos are fine. Also, keep in mind that those areas tend to get stretch marks on some women during pregnancy.

it really depends on a lot of things. some women carry thier baby high, which means the skin around the lower hip would not stretch. other women carry thier baby lower, which might result in stretching. if the tattoo does stretch, there is a good chance it will shrink back down to its normal size after the pregnancy, but it might have stretch marks in it. my advice, if you do get it done, ask your tattoo artist if they can reccomend something to put on your skin during pregnancy to prevent stretch marks that won't damage the tattoo.

YOu just need to look around you Featherhead to see how a woman gets bigger as she ages. So regardless of how your body reacts during pregnancy, YES, at some time in your life the tattoo will become stretched, enlarged, and most likely distorted.

The fact that you find it necessary to permanently mutilate your body while having a child is really troubling. Nevertheless, consider the downside. Imagine how you feel when the tattoo gets red and infected, then smelly and painful when gangrene sets in, then finally your hip rots off.

My advice ??? Get a sewing machine and make some baby clothes. It will do you good to get creative with something that really has value, and defines you as a good mother and responsible adult.

Good Luck

The majority of people will have stretching some will stretch back with no damage and others will leave damage like distorted image, stretch marks and such. It really depends on the elasticity of your skin and researching your ancestors may help you make a more informed decision since a lot of the key factors are hereditary.

It depends on how you carry your pregnancy. My best friend had a tattoo on her hip and it didn't stretch during pregnancy, but I've seen it happen.

It really depends on how you carry and how quickly you get back in shape. My little sister has one on her right hip/pelvic area it kinda wraps around. and hers did great. I have one on my stomache next to my belly button. Well it streached out and I was blessed with no streach marks and it went back to normall all three times. It was pretty thin looking towords the end of the third kid though.

One other thought just remember that the boneyer the area the more it hurts. the one on the top of my foot up my ankle hurt a lot more than the one on my breast.

yes the tattoo will stretch. hmm after the birth of the child, the tatoo will go back to its normal size however since it was stretch, the shape/pattern wont be quite the same as before...
