Sometimes de Quervain's settles on its own. However, treatment usually is sought because of the extreme discomfort it gives. Will it cost that much to have a steroid injection? Stop using the CTS brace. That is useless for you.

This sounds exactly like what I have, and my diagnosis is Rheumatoid Arthritis, wrists, knees, spine and hip joints.

At Walmart they carry a pair of stretch, wrist supports, no metal, (similar to motor cycle or wheel chair gloves).
They are beige stretch with a band (adjustable) around the wrist (it supports the base of my thumb) I use them frequently. They are about $8.00 a pair. They are machine washable but do snag easily. I think I have about 6 now.
I work in them so some get ruined.

It supports just enough to keep from flipping it into the God awful painful position. The one that brings tears.

Ibuprofen will help the inflammation and swelling in the thumb. Good luck, I certainly sympathize.
