I hired this lady do do cleanning for me. She said she would like to hear some music and she asked me what kind of music I liked and I told her Christian and she didn't want to hear anything about Jesus. She would rather I play NonChristian Music that didn't glorify Jesus! I was shocked! I thought that J.W. were Christians! She started to preach to me before she left. I told her I was sorry but I was Baptist and that if she was going to start to try to convert me she would not be comming back! I am saved! Why did she think that she needed to change me? But most of all why not glorify Jesus? They aren't Christian? I am still shocked!

Why are you allowing an employee to dictate what music you listen to in your own home?

Wow, she sounds awfully rude for someone who is being paid to do a job for you. I once had a plumber get upset because I was playing country music, and I told him, "Mister, for what you're charging, you can tune it out!" I have also been proselytized by Christian maintenance people. It is very disrespectful. This situation sounds like a battle of two egos who each wanted to change the other.

As that secular country group that sometimes glorifies Jesus, Big and Rich, sing, "There's never a hero in a battle of egos."

JW's teach that Jesus is really a created being, namely the arch-angel Michael. Here's what the Apostle John said about Jesus and about such people.

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God...14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

2 John 1:7 For many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not confess the coming of Jesus Christ in the flesh. Such a one is the deceiver and the antichrist.

The cleaning woman is the only one who could tell you why she feels the way she does.

You realize that not all Christians worship in the same manner. and some Christians find other Christians' practices to be puzzling. Were it not so, all Christians would be of one denomination.

Consider: You are a Baptist. If you were cleaning a house and the householder played "Ave Maria" or "We Thank Thee, O God, for a Prophet," or "I Sing a Song of the Saints of God" (Christian music all), would you be as comfortable as if the householder played "The Lily of the Valley" or Amy Grant's rendition of "El Shaddai"?

Anyone who strives to follow Jesus is a Christian, even if he doesn't follow Him according to your preferred method.

Christians aren't all the same just as no man or woman is the same. We all share similar beliefs, but our particulars make us individuals.
Don't be appalled, though. I am a Christian, but I am a Gnostic Christian. Just as there are different sects of Christianity, there are different likes and dislikes to every person, regardless of their shared beliefs.

There is no need to glorify Jesus. Jesus is already glorified by God and by opinion and what has been recorded. He has been served justice in his actions. It is fine that you love him, as do I, and you. But to glorify Jesus is almost redundant. I can understand the cleaning lady's actions. I love Jesus, but don't care for Christian music. I find different ways to express my gratitude for his existence. As does she, I'm sure.

Peace!

She should not tell you what to play in YOUR HOUSE! After you told her that you were a Christian and a Baptist she should not have tried to convert you! I would never go into another person house and tell them what to do. It would be out of order in my opinion! I know that J.W. must convert a certain amount of people or they may be in danger of being disfellowshiped. I know this because I have a neighbor who is J.W. and she let it slip when talking to me.

First and foremost, if she is your cleaning lady, she should mind her own business.
It is a fact that some music entitled "Christian" is not too Christian at all.
Example:
If a song refers to Jesus as the ALL-mighty, we all know that's incorrect.
However, she is in your house, she should insist on nothing.
If she started to 'preach' to you, I hope it was but a few words after you, perhaps, asked a question.
They are told to watch their P's and Q's about preaching at work.
Although, your word choice ('preach') may not be the wisest.
Can you distinguish between conversation and preaching.
Is it the fact she said anything at all that riles you?
Can you not calmly tolerate an opposing view that is presented respectfully?

Maybe she, like so many of us, simply doesn't care for Christian music. Or maybe it makes her uncomfortable.

And I wonder why it's ok for Christians to go around trying to convert everyone but not ok for someone else to try to convert you. It seems fair enough to me. If you aren't interested, fine, but if you're willing to preach your views to other people you should be willing to show the respect of listening to them preach back.

Not all Christians like Christian music, just as not all Irish like Celtic music.

As far as why she wanted to convert you - why does ANY Christian want to convert anybody? It's ironic - if you feel aggravated by her attempt to convert you, perhaps you now understand how non-Christians feel when we're constantly harped on by Christians in this manner.

I was one of them once upon a time.....
Basically they dont believe Jesus and God are one and the same. They believe that Jesus is God's son and is therefore not God, and that no one but God should be "given praise" aka worshiped.
To them hearing Jesus being called "God" or worshipped as such is offensive.
BUT...as an ex-JW I can tell you that nothing in their beliefs permits her to ask you to change your music. According to their beliefs, if it truly bothered her that much, she should have politely excused herself and left. She was out of line.
