No matter our differences no matter our struggles we are all part of the human race and as someone here aptly named us we are large dysfunctional family and I would not have us any different. When it matters we care. What do you think?

By not have us different I mean different faiths, personalities, thoughts, questions, souls, what makes us all individuals.

I found it nothing short of astonishing, given the structure of this forum. Only days before I had resolved to just pass by Orion's questions without comment. Then another regular brought to our attention his posts last night ... and whatever I had assumed about him was shown to be exactly that, assumption, and an unkind one to boot. I felt very small, deservedly so.

Behind every question is a human being at the keyboard, one who lives and loves ... and sometimes grieves. I am gratified to see that even here, there are times when our common humanity trumps all of our differences, and coming together for one who mourns is a higher priority than proving ourselves right and others wrong.

I agree with you to a degree. Yes, we are a large dysfunctional family, but why would you not want us any different?
I want people to improve and not be dysfunctional. The only way to do that is for humans to start taking responsibility for their own actions, especially when it comes to having children and being a parent.
I can forgive people, but that doesn't mean I don't want us all to be better people. If everyone would work on being a better person themselves, then the world would get better.

I've seen it happen many times here.. when someone is truly in pain and reaches out.. the rest of us, no matter what our belief extend a hand of friendship.. it just proves that human kindness is not exclusive to a faith, "holy" text, nor a god. It comes from within us all.

That was one of the finest moments I've ever experienced here in R&S. I wish it had been for a happy reason rather than such a tragic one, but it does prove that we can overcome our differences when one of our own is hurting and in need of our compassion.

And maybe one day, we won't need a sad occasion to remind us that we all have a lot more in common than we have things that divide us.

I dont know what exactly happened last night, but I do feel we are all one & that everything each individual does, thinks or feels, has an impact on the world as a whole.

I find it interesting just how much respect some of us with oppossing points of view can develop for each other.

I feel the debate in hear can only be a good thing, and all of us who take part gain a better understanding of why people do or do not have faith.

I believe it's what sets us apart from the greater animal kingdom.
In times of need, it doesn't matter what we believe, who we argue with or what is said, we rally together when one of us in in need. We hold each other up and bind out hearts with love. It could be no other way.
(Im sorry, I've been getting very passionate lately about the love that God has for His creation)

blessings to all, lets commit to keeping Orion in our thoughts and prayers over the coming days and weeks

When humanity hurts that is sad--When you know the individual on some scale--and you can feel his pain--differing opinions get set aside--and empathy allows us to share the pain and grow together.

I believe our dysfunctuality as you put it is largely due to the fact that too many of us do care. We care and we tolerate at the expense of discernment. People think this makes things better, when in reality all that changes is a person's ability to except any amount of ****. Instead of feeding ignorant children in Africa that will grow up to be starving ignorant adults why do we not just let them starve. Let nature take its course. Our caring creates a life out of balance, like overpopulation and pollution. I find it interesting that people who are worried about overpopulation are also worried about world hunger and AID's. How about we dont feed every hungry third world man, woman and child, that way they will either learn how to feed themselves or they will perish thus decreasing the surplus population. If we stopped caring about people so much then maybe the quality of our planet and the life on it would become better instead of worse.

Off topic, but a while ago I posted a prayer request. Many people answered,non-Christians and Christians alike, with messages of sympathy and prayers.
That meant a lot to me,and it's good to know that even though we may argue and bicker,we can be respectful and caring people and pull together.
