I own one and highly recommend it. It's one of the best cars Ford has made in quite a while.
Consumer Reports agrees. Their April 2007 Auto issue gives the Ford Fusion top marks in safety and predicted reliability, and also gives it their top buy recommendation.
Recommend you buy the 2007, not the 2006. The 2007 made important safety improvements.

Good cars. Rarely see em in for troubles. Only had to fix one so far myself, Ford left a line loose on the a/c system. Was a bolt that got tight before actually clamping the lines to the expansion valve. Minor repair, 5 min and was fixed.
