My dear Mr. Bowie,
We're all neurotic - it's just a matter of degree.
On the one end, you have psychotic murderers; approaching what one might call "pure evil."
Near the middle we're more "balanced" and confine our neuroses to harmless fetishes.
On the other end, you have people obsessed with religion, claiming God speaks to them (Robertson, Falwell, and all manner of cultists like Jones, Koresh, Applewhite, etc.).

How can you say this is the truth? I am not offended, just wondering how you can be so sure?
You're right religion has done more harm than good...but how do you define religion? A set of beliefs that require a strict set of rites and rituals. Yes, that would be Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Muslim and certain misguided sects within Christianity. If you look closely at the teachings of Jesus, you will find a way of life that includes baptism and communion, (even these are not shown to be a requirement) but the His teachings require a loving heart...who would resent that?

I think its indisputable that religion (in the organised sense) does more harm than good. History gives all the evidence you need of this, from the Moorish empire that took over 7 centuries of fighting to rid Iberia from to the Crusades that saw Western Europeans send children in the name of god to kill Jews (the so called childrens crusade).
However, I would not bet on it being recognised as a pathology anytime soon. It gives people a reason to believe they are better than someone else without having to justify it - just look at some of your other answers - and that is too appealing for people to let go of any time soon,

Hello man who sold the world,
"When will theism be categorized as a psychological disorder?"
Hmmm. I'm not sure, man. That may occur about the same time that people begin to refrain from baiting others just to allow their egos to enjoy the illusion of intellectual, though not moral, superiority. So who knows?

When it becomes a psychological disorder. I've taken psychology, and there's nothing wrong with people are religious.
It is not the truth. It is your opinion.

That is >your< "truth", whether you, or anyone else, likes it or not. : )
Religion does just as much "harm" / "good" as pacifism, apathy, disagreement over trival issues (the existance of God / whose God is "the" God, etc), or any other reason / cause anyone could care to name.
