Hello all,
I have Creative Inspire 5.1 Digital 5500 speaker system which i have connected to creative sound blaster live 24 bit sound card, using orange black and green wires from pc to woofer. I do get sound from all 5 speakers but its is not dolby surround sound when i play any divx file.
I use windows media player. I have recently installed k-lite media codec pack. Thanks
Any idea what i am doing wrong?
Thanks

Are you sure the Divx file actually has Dolby-Digital audio? Most Divx video files use 2-channel MP2 or MP3 audio.

Plus, to output multi-channel out you need a s/pdif (digital audio) output

HDMI carries 5.1 but an important difference is that it also carries the TrueDolby Digital and if available DTS master audio. Its 5.1 but with extra kick and cleaner distribution. If the movie is encoded with 7.1 then it will require you to use the HDMI as the TOS Link or Coax digital can only carry a 5.1 signal, and only digital and DTS, With Special receivers, and if the movie was remastered, it is possible to get a 6.1 surround but there were only a handful of movies that were produced in 6.1. Anyway, in all fairness, having worked at Best Buy, we only sold Monster, Rocketfish, and Audio Research cables so we really couldn't reccomend anything else...but since then other companies have come out with cheaper cables that do deliver on sound and video. Don't blame Best Buy for the prices of Monster though, they are pretty high wholesale as well. But, in fairness, Monster does tend to last longer and have better sound balance and less "noise" then the cheaper cables.
