Depending upon what part of Australia you are asking about, it is between 8 and 10 hours ahead of the time in the UK, right now. This changes depending upon the season. They use daylight saving time at the opposite times that the UK does because they have summer when it is Winter in the UK.

in the east it is 10 past 8. Eastern Aus is 10 hrs forwards of UK. I think Perth is about 7-8hrs forwards of UK...

from aust to uk - just think minus 10 hours today to brisbane
from uk to aust - just think plus 10 hours today
you may be out an hour depending on which country is on daylight savings time

It is forwards +10hrs from GMT but remember the UK is +1hr from GMT at the moment.
