No offense or anything but I've noticed most (( not all, but a large percentage)) of Atheists that I've met in real life and the internet seem to spend a huge amount of their time talking about a God they believe doesn't exist. They often bash God, tease him/her/it and try to convince others that he doesn't exist.
I don't think this makes any sense. Most people don't believe unicorns exist but you don't see us going " LOL, THAT STUPID UNICORN CAN KISS MY BUTT!"
I've also noticed a lot that atheists attempt to convince religious folk that their beliefs are illegit and foolish but when the religious people retaliate, or simply state their beliefs, it's suddenly, " Oh-Em-Gee! That Christian/Jew/Buddhist/Muslim/Whatever is forcing their beliefs on me!"
So please answer this. It confuses me quite a bit.

But why do you feel the need to convince them to stop believing in God? Ya'll believe there is no God to sit there and say " Hey, you believed in me so go burn in hell"
If that were the scenario then I'd understand, even if it makes absolutely no sense.

I can think of two possibilities.
One is they may be threatened by the possible existence of God and they have to keep convincing themselves that God doesn't exist, because their vision of God is a scary one, an angry, judging and punishing God. But they don't realize that this is just some peoples view of God. There are many ways to think about and view God and who knows which one is the right way.
Another possibility is that of narcissism. Narcissists have to believe that their view of things is the only right one, because a large part of their self esteem is based on being right. They are constantly searching for validation of their personal views(really of themselves). And attacking people with opposing/different views, or converting people to their way of thinking, is a way to get this validation(narcissistic supply).
Narcissism is not limited to atheists, however. Many God believers are also narcissists.

I'm not an atheist, nor am I a religious person, but I believe the answer is that it has to do with a sort of resentment and questioning the influence or the cultural authority. Religion has had a wide spread influence on our culture and society. I think that making comments here and there are actually meant as questions or can be used to get you thinking outside of the rigid confines of religion.
As for an atheist trying to convert someone? It's different than a Christian trying to convert in the atheist mind. Christianity is a mythology and atheism not. Really, in the Christian mind we have it the other way around. Funny, eh?

It is illogical isn't it.
Atheists believe so much on logic, yet fail to see that is illogical to argue something that they believe do not exist.
I sense though that some atheist justify their action, by denying the existence of God. Without God, there is no standard to follow.
They may argue that religion is controlling them, yet without rules, there will be chaos. If they are being control as implied, how come they can still free to choose, and to deny.
They also may say, religion cause people to loose reality, and act foolish. That is true if that religion teaches false doctrine such as the case in "Jones Town" or "Waco in Texas".
But over all, most religions teaches peace and goodness.
I am not saying all religious people are perfect, but look at community that have churches, the more there is , the better the community.
Lastly, and sad to say, one of the big factor that contributed to the Atheist's atitude to wards religion is that, we as God believing people do not live up to the standards that set by God, and in many ways, we become hipocrites, though the gospel is great, but our action is a bad example to any non believer.

I can only speak for myself, and I will say that, first of all, God and religion should not be grouped together, as you have done, because they are not the same thing. As far as God goes, no gods exist as far as I'm concerned, so that's a non-issue. That's why I don't talk about God, because there is no god. Religion and religiosity, on the other hand, are another matter. If you are curious about the atheist view of religious faith and its impact upon human beings, now and throughout history, I recommend "The End of Faith" by Sam Harris and "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins.
The process of losing religious faith is called deconversion, not conversion, and there is a reason for that. It is remarkably similar to deprogramming, the process by which delusional, brainwashed cult members are restored to rational thought.

Many Christians believe that if they don`t talk about Christ and convince others to Christianity ,souls go to hell. Same is with Muslims. Atheists also think that if we believe in God we lack scientific temperment.

Most of the American atheists oppose fundamentalist Christians who try to get their way of life into American law. They prefer to live in a democracy, not a theocracy.

The worlds newest religion: Evangelical atheism.
They are doing what they can to try to convert as many to their faith as they can. At least they haven't started coming door to door like the JW's and Mormons. But, that being said they are just as bad as those two groups when it comes to condemning anybody that doesn't march in lock step with their beliefs.

we care that many people live deluded lives, and resent the influence of it in our global society.
religion is dangerous.
when peoples laurels rest in fantasy, their ideas about reality become distorted.
edit
we sometimes ask questions from the point of view of god existing to try and communicate better so the question will be understood.
if we out right say god doesnt exist all the time, we get more rebuttal and abuse.

human beings combat human beings. continually have continually will. whilst human beings categorize themselves everyone no longer of their team exchange into the enemy. truly has no longer something to do with faith, basically human nature. Deeper study will practice dissimilar God believers even have conflict.
