Jesus preached love and tolerance -- Christianity continues to be a dividing force in society -- They have not tolerance for those who do not subscribe to their 'moral code' and they spread condemnation and hate instead promoting love, kindness, compassion, mercy, forgiveness and tolerance.
Unfortunately, most fundamental Christians have been taught that tolerance is compromise -- They promote hatred and homophobia under the guise of 'family values' .
Most of those dogmatic Christians out there who use the label of Christianity to promote hatred of fellow humans, simply need the Bible as a cover or excuse for prejudice.
Whether or not you believe in God, you should live your life with love, kindness, compassion, mercy and tolerance while trying to make the world a better place.

I'm an atheist. But while I think homosexuality is a physical condition that is analogous to a disease/deformity, it has no bearing on the person. Please read on. If a person were born without a hand, would we condone them? Would we make them attach a cloned hand to the stump (imagining that we had the capability)? Clearly, if you accept that gayness is not a choice (my belief), it is then clearly a condition that APPEARS to be detrimental to the continuation of that individuals genes. Roughly speaking, it decreases fitness and COULD be something that could be treated or changed. But I don't think it SHOULD be changed. If we could "treat" it, I wouldn't let a parent make the choice for their child. Just as I wouldn't let a parent put a tattoo on a child. It would be a vicious violation of personal rights and freedoms. Or, perhaps gayness is a fetish. What difference would it make? Perhaps being gay is a choice. So frickin' what? I like a little kink in my life. If I'm doing it with another enthusiast what does anyone care? The truth is that homosexuality doesn't matter to anyone but the homosexual. I had a gay friend that would have had surgery if he could have been straight. He didn't want the life of a gay man. I had another friend who loved being gay. He thought that relationships were so much more straight forward and easy. He liked the ease of communication and the deep understanding that was possible with someone very much like himself. We have to frame this issue in the truth. Both sides are very much guilty of obscuring it. BTW, I'm a member of the Matthew Shepard Foundation. I fight where I can for LGBT rights. EDIT: I wish that that evil people full of judgment and hate someday repent for their nastiness. The act is a sin? Sin is what's in your heart. Look at your hearts. Do you see what I see? Shame on you. Shame on you who attempt to claim love while hating those who harm none. Shame on you for the sin of eating shrimp. Shame on you for being ignorant. Shame on you for condemning others based on beliefs in a book you don't know or understand. The bible isn't the cause of your evil and hate and sin. It is your justification. You aren't supporting the bible. You are hiding behind it.

I was once asked what was blasphemy. At the time I was standing in a church parking lot, & I looked up & said "That is the ultimate blasphemy." I am a Christain & I have studied for 24 years. I really believe that Christ is appalled at how so many "Christains" have warped & twisted his message. The type of Christain you describe is not truly a Christain. To be a Christain is to follow the Path of Christ, who ate with prostitutes, lived among sinners, owned nothing, & truly loved all. These are people who can spout all the right words while in their hearts they are dead. I am truly sorry about your friend. It is also sad that the few loud mouths are the ones you judge Christ's way by.I know it will difficult for you, but you must try to forgive the ignorant ones, not for them but for you. Otherwise you will become just like them, filled with hate & vemon, without the ability to realize that just because someone says they are a Christain, even if they believe it themselves, it does not make it so.Remember Christ also said "ye will know them by their fuit" Again, I am sorry for your loss.

It is not condemnation of the person it is condemning what is behind the act of homosexuality if you are a christian going by the bible you would know that it speaks against sexual immorality not only homosexuality but all forms of immoral sex. Paul was talking about the Christians who knew the gospel and what it entails they were the ones who were suppose to be setting an example and there they were acting worse than the gentiles. I am sorry that your friend lost his life and that he will not be able to get a second chance to turn things around. Your friend was not strong enough to fight and for those people to throw him in hell fire and condemn him instead of praying with him and for him, asking god to give him strength and changes in his life was totally wrong. You bring people into the light with love not hate. I personally think homosexual act is wrong because i try to live by the word of God.
1 Corinthians 6- 9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God
Do not be deceived. neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites.
Please read the rest of the chapter from beginning to end.

I don't know what caused your friend to kill themself, but that is a terrible thing. I think that there is a major problem with preaching against certain areas only. It's become a matter of socially acceptable behavior. If society says it's ok, then it eventually falls into the norm in the church. A lot of churches accept gay people. Personally I think that whatever the Bible says should go.

First of all, I want to tell you that I'm sorry for the loss of your friend. Having lost several friends and a relative to suicide, I know all too well how much that hurts.
Secondly, I want to pre-empt what I'm about to say by announcing that I am in fact a Christian. I attend church, pray and try (although rarely succeed) to live a Christian lifestyle. It's not about how good you get, it's about how hard you're trying. That being said, I am just as sickened as you are by the treatment of homosexuals by most "Christians." I think it is hypocritical, inhuman and downright evil.
Christ taught love, compassion, grace, mercy, and kindness... all qualities that are quickly dismissed once most religious people realize they're dealing with a homosexual. They figure that little facet of information is an excuse to treat people in such a horrific manner, it pains me to even think about it.
I'm not sure why Christians think that their faith can change a person's sexual preference... especially when they're shoving it down that person's throat. They love to quote Leviticus and how homosexuality is "an abomination" unto God.
Let me tell you something... ALL SIN is an abomination unto God. That includes the sin of pride. That includes the sin of hypocrisy and it most certainly includes the sin of hatred. If not for the concept of grace, we'd all be doomed to hell and if not for the sacrifice of Christ, there would be no grace in which to redeem all of us from eternal damnation. What right do any of us have to point our finger and parade? If not for Christ we are all stained top to bottom with sin.
People wish to tout their own self-righteousness and morality with their heterosexuality as if they did anything to earn it. I'm straight and cannot fathom the concept of being with another man sexually. That is how I am programmed. I don't know why and don't question it. I like women and therefore I'm comfortable with it. But for anyone to think their sexual preference makes them better than anyone else is ludicrous. And to believe that Christianity is a cure for homosexuality is even more perverse. That's like telling an alcoholic they can skip AA meetings so long as they're a Christian. Christianity isn't the cure for anything but an afterlife spent in hell.
I don't have all the answers. I don't know why God would let someone be born gay so that their family can shun them, their friends can abandon them and the rest of the world can hate them. But I do not believe it is a choice and I do not believe it is a character flaw or anything someone should be punished for.
Christians need to stop this. They should be better than this. It's like Pharisees gathering their stones to toss at the adulterous woman. When we are all free of sin we can start throwing stones but until then, may I suggest the radical idea of treating homosexuals with LOVE and COMPASSION like Christ would have instead of cramming scripture down people's throats. You'd be amazed how much about Christ you can teach others by acting like Him.
God bless you. I think every word you said is correct and I can only pray others start to follow suit.

You are right, I am a christian but I know that nobody has the right to judge anyone. God loves and accepts everyone, no sin is 'worse' than any other, and I'm very sorry your friend took his own life. I also had a friend who did this, he was also picked on for being 'gay'. I can only hope the christians who preach hate in the name of Jesus have their eyes opened to the damage they cause, and repent.

Let me first say that your freind committed a worse sin by destroyin the most precious gift god gave him.As you say he was a gay christian, but surely he himself would have known that his sexual orientation went totally against god`s rule?
People are always gonna be against homosexuality,so i cant see how you can blame other people for an individuals actions.Despite all the answers u cannot accept that yr freind was responsible 4 his own death at his own hand,if u want to belive that hell is all pitchforks an fire go ahead.Hell is actually death, the cold hard grave, that is his punishment, denied a life everlastin

firstly let me offer you healing blessings for your sad and unnecessary loss.
who are all these people?! how DARE they show you such scant compassion?! we can only take comfort in the fact that their karma will make them suffer for this shocking lack of empathy and heartlessness - if they do not become enlightened and create love and tolerance through thoughts and deeds that will show apology for their cruel words today, then may their blackened hearts and foul thoughts and words come back to them, ninefold.
yes, ninefold.
your friend is a victim of bullying, simple as that. those that continue even now to condemn him and show no respect for you, are cold, ignorant, blind, thoughtless, vapid, pathetic, soul-less people who hide their fascist thoughts and deeds behind religion.
if there is a hell of any kind, they will suffer it and for a very long time indeed
and suicide is not weak. to get over the instinct for self-preservation, to be able to injure yourself, to free your mind from taboos and conventions, shows strength not weakness (read the Times yesterday), but the fact that peoples ignorance and stupidity drove a perfectly normal man to this is despicable.
your friend will be watching over you now, with the rest of your ancestors. take it easy on yourself, and surround yourself with healing thoughts.
blessed be
)o(

Did you ever read the part about Sodom and Gomorrah? Yea, God did send his angels, and the filth tryed to rape them. In every situation, man has a choice. It is no different than two people in marriage, not taking other partners. Every one of us makes decisions on what we do every day. Sorry for your friend. It would have been better had he not been battling his feelings so deeply. I just have to wonder tho, would he/she have been so unstable as to take their own life if it would have been a partner who were the opposite sex, and just walked out?
