I've never understood people's faith in "God." I am an atheist and my contention is that the level of education is the determining factor in religious belief: the lower the level of education, the greater the need to have an unexplained mystical force(i.e., "God") to provide one's validation. My girlfriend has recently embraced Christianity fervently, despite my efforts to reason with her. I don't know why people turn to religion, but perhaps some of you would care to share what it is that makes believers out of you?

Because people fear death, especially now a days when everyone is becoming more scared of everything.

I agree with Jack here, but I'm also atheist too. It does seem that way as well, and also have you ever noticed this. A celebrity that is normally snooty or stuck up, something bad happens in their life and suddenly they turn all goodie too shoes? To me that is so hypocritical to think you're better than everyone else and then when life deals you a bad hand you feel like you must turn all nice or then your life will always be miserable.

Quite funny actually when that does happen, it just seperates the leaders from the followers and proves that every once in a while, true justice still exists. I have no problem myself with Christians or anyone at all, I get along with everyone for the most part. I only ask people who are religious not to meddle in my own beliefs or lack thereof, because to me I don't care what religion you are, I don't judge people, it's rude and quite honestly disrespectful no matter who you are, on top of sounding like you're a nosy person.

Because Jack in Christ it's real and tangible. God Bless You.

There are a number of the reasons why so many people are turning to religion and in particular to Christianity. I believe God has placed a seed in the hearts of all mankind that amounts to the fore knowledge of God himself. Man has always sought to know his creator and even most (but not all) atheists in my opinion are really not atheists at all, but they conceal their true feelings because they do not have sufficiently convincing evidence.

I believe the main reason why so many are turning to Christ is that they can see the tangilble difference that being a Christian has meant to the lives of their own friends and relatives who profess a faith in Jesus.

When finally we take that step of faith and give our hearts to Jesus, only then do we truly know that we are born again in Him.

you look like more enlightened and hence i can discuss little deeper thoughts. GOD is definitely there. but the gods listed in the present form by almost all religion is definitely not there. i call GOD to whom? to the power that has created this universe. HE is not dedinitely with 2 eyes and 2 hands and 2 legs etc. but HE is a force about whom we do not know a single word. HE remained beyond our imagination and HE will remain so. as you know, if at all HE comes within the reach of human beings, do they allow HIM to escape. so to your second point, why people turn to religion - people try to find shelter believing tree will give shade. it may or may not be. religion is helpful only to the extent that when people offer prayers, their mind is concentrated and this concentratation(meditation) gives relief to mind. when mind gets relief, body also gets relief.

Because of the feeling's of joy it brings into one's life, what will it hurt? after all, we all "cease to exist" at some point, will we not?

i used to be atheist until i turned to my savior. and the only lord jesus christ.

i find it better to believe in something than not to, and i love jesus for what he has done.

and it's better to think that you're going to heaven when you die than think that there won't be anything left but emptiness.
