If you bought a major mfgr computer and you replaced the MB or more than 4 Major devices, windows activation will kick in. Call your mfgr and tell then that you might need your motherboard flashed with the serial number or asset tag. Alot of service techs nd field service techs get lazy.

If youre using mischanneled software, that cheap copy of windows isn't looking so cheap now, is it?

If it isn't a Genuine Copy of Windows you're going to have to buy a product key from Microsoft. If you replaced a major component,(or had someone else do it), such as the motherboard, you may need to phone Microsoft.com Supposedly if you replace three major components, motherboard, cpu, and the harddrive, you need to re-register, but the Genuine Advantage Tool from Microsoft has some bugs in it. They're just trying to stop the loss, of millions of dollars of lost software revenue. Is there a window that pops up, and says activate your windows, and has a phone number for Microsoft.com? Call it, and a helpful technician will lead you through re-activating,(provided as I said that this is a genuine copy.) If there isn't a phone number go to Microsoft.com, it's listed there. I re-activated a recent computer, as the motherboard had been replaced, and the BIOS was no longer recognized as the one originally installed

You need to buy a genuine copy of Windows XP. Or you can do it another way but it is illegal.
