I would like to know if there is a specific length of time someone should wait after having unprotected sex before they are tested for HIV. Is 6 or so months a good amount of time? How long can it be until the disease surfaces? Can it takes years, or would someone know they have it by then?

It is always best to have baseline test just to make sure you are not already positive, they recommend testing at 6 month intevals. It could take years for a positive result to show.

you should get tested right away man, thats pretty scary having that, you should always wear protection while having sex, thers alot of scary things out there, also after the HIV testing you should get tested every year just to be safe, by the way next time you have unprotected sex, make sure that the girl you do it with doesn't have any type of disease and make sure she doesn't and to have proof of her last HIV test

it takes between 6 months and a year for the disease to manifest itself. so you might want to get tested at both the six month and 1 year marks.
