I think technology in general is increasing the level of rudeness that we see in society everyday. People have gotten to accustomed to instant food, instant communication instant everything, that many of the fights and arguments today are because people didn't get things as instantaneously as they had wanted. I like how Craig Ferguson put it in his skit. It's like people can't plan more than 1 hour into the future, they have to have their baked potato right now or else!!!!
The second reason is the cloak of anonymity that people get in cyber space. It makes them bolder and more brazen than they would be in real life. Then you take a bunch of brazen people and put them together and you get a melting pot of all types of aggressive behaviors.

I would agree with those who blame it more on upbringing than on the devices. Blaming the device in this case is like blaming a hammer for crushing your thumb.
You could blame a combination of upbringing and today's politically correct environment. If the things that we see today had happened 20 or 30 years ago, there probably would have been someone who would call it out.....loudly. These days, those indignant voices have been silenced, afraid they will draw accusations of some type of prejudice if they speak up.
But, then again, has there ever been a time when people have considered others to be truly polite? Pick up writings from any era and you'll likely find someone who's concerned about the state of their society, what with all of the rudeness being displayed. It could be that cell phones and PDAs are just the latest in a long line of items that have allowed us to bring out our inner-idiot.

It seems so, but it all gos back to upbringing, my dear. People have forgotten to teach their brood etiquette. I mean, look at how they chew gum, eat even at a restaurant, bully their way around the store and leave their carts in the middle of the aisle, how they talk so loud and rude, etc... de-evolving comes to mind.

No. I think these doodads make it easier for people who are already rude to simply be more annoying than they were before.
