I want to kno how to convert mp4 format files into a compatiable format so that it can be played with windows media player and no cost should be involved.
I also want these videos to be copied into a cd and it should also work in a normal VCD player

Easier, just download VLC Media Player. it can play any media formats.

Is is free and works for most formats. Besides: you can take screen shots and is even easier to handle than the media player.

You must either try to download plug-ins for playing mp4 in windows media player, or you can try to upgrade your player to windows media player 10/11. or else try to play in real player/apple movie player/quick-time viewer etc. I don't think you'll have any advantage converting them to either .mpg or .wmv or other. the quality disappears

Yea everyone says "VLC" , but you dont a a player you want a converter.
