the goverment keep complaining that the british are obese and should lose weight and get out more and get more exercise. when the smoking ban comes in on the 1st july, do you think that people will stay at home more? this whole thing doesn't bother me but i am just curious. a drink and cig go together like bacon and eggs for smokers and if they cannot go out and have both (you can't have one without the other) then the alternative is to drink and smoke together at home. they won't go out when they can order their shopping, drink etc online so they can stay at home and smoke/drink. this making more obese people, creating alcohol related problems in the home, lads getting together at home causing partner arguments, upsetting neighbours when drunk, more police being called to homes than pubs etc etc. do you think this will all happen and the goverment being two faced to stop obese people? also peoples own business closing down that relies on smokers? (pubs, cafes, bingo halls etc)

No, it will not happen.

We as individuals and as a society will adapt to live in this environment.

What about the old aged pensioners that have smoked all their lives and play Bingo. Are they like everyone else forced to stand in the street to light up.

Are these regulations actually working in Ireland and Scotland or is the government not releasing the numbers of clubs, bars etc that have closed down.

I read an article that non smokers are beginning to start smoking because their smoking mates are leaving them inside the pub while they tab up outside. Their mates feel the urge to start smoking to keep in the conversation.

We have dedicated bus stop type shelters for smoking at work, 6 of them to house over 5,000 employees.

If everyone gave up smoking the country will fall apart, then what will the government tax to keep the health, schools, defence etc if they are not receiving the duty from tabs.

STAND UP, LIGHT UP AND BE COUNTED.

One thing the government did not take into consideration is the fact hat when people give up smoking a lot of people tend to replace the cigarette with food (I know from previous attempts), kinda like comfort eating to compensate for the lack of ciggies, so its all very well and good them trying to get everyone to stop smoking, but I don't think they have taken this into consideration, that less fags=more weight.

The way this country is going anything is possible. We have no freedom of choice. In the 80s people started to drink in the house has it is cheaper.I am a smoker do not drink & am thin.So thankfully I only have to put up with them harping on at me to pack in smoking.

It hasn't happened in other countries so why should it happen here?
Stopping smoking can put on weight, I put on 2 stones eating to help with the cravings. But getting rid of weight is a lot easier than getting rid of cancer!

The experience of countries which had put control on smoking reveal that it increases consumption of alocohol.Drinking more means eating also more. The result will be more obesity. What we should we do is educating public, making people aware of risk involved in being overweight.
