estar is a trmporary feeling so to say I am bored in spanish you would say estoy abborido.
Estoy consado, I am tired
Estoy enfermo, I am sick
Soy is a perminent or long lasting state of being. eg. I am a teacher Soy una Maestra.
I am a student- Soy estudiante
