there are too many accidents around your area? like you trust your kids but u don't trust other drivers so you won't let them drive because of accidents and crazy drivers? my sister got her license not long after her 16th b-day, we lived i California and now I'm almost 16 and we live in Texas and i cant get mine because "the drivers there are crazy drivers"

and if you dont have a good answer like your answer is "i dont have kids" dont answer the question or imagine u did have kids

I've been thru this as well. currently i'm 17 and i'm looking for my 3rd car lol

i wrecked the first one cuz i'm stupid and tried to take a turn too fast (no one hurt, only a fence and my car), and no 16 year old should drive a porsche

i wrecked the second one cuz there was no way in hell i could avoid the guy that ran the red light

How fast was i going when i tboned the guy though? 45 on a 45 street. You know why? Cuz i learned from my frist accident to drive slower. If i was speeding it woulda gone a lot worse. Luckily i just fractured my foot and nothing else. This accident was 100% unavoidable, but I was okay because I learned to be cautious and did everything i could to try and stop.

My point is, there are plenty of crazy drivers, and the sooner you learn to deal with them and drive with them, the better off you'll be. Your parents have every right to be scared, and so do you for that matter.

Most California drivers are crazy, more then Texas at least, my parents also said the dreaded I trust you but not the other drivers... In my opinion that saying is a double edge sword, cause if they don't trust the other drivers they don't trust as a capable person to handle the difficulties of driving, the best thing to do is try to talk to you parents and explain that you are responsible/capable enough to handle the situations, and offer to take some defensive driving courses, I beleave their are some really great schools in Texas for this.

As for me I wouldn't have any problem letting my kids drive regardless of traffic in a area, but ofcourse if I do have kids I am planning on training them from a young age starting on race karts.

Also to help on your parents decision get them to take you to a kart track that has karts that arent limited and show them that your a good driver, although cars have a stronger impact kart racing can be just as dangerous if not more.

We live right off of a major highway used by semi's to go from Indiana to Ohio. My son got his license only because he passed our driving test. We made sure we could trust him when we were not with him. We have very stiff rules for him as well. If he gets a ticket for any reason he will not be driving at all unless one of us is with him for at least 6 months. Teens behind the wheel of a car is very scary. Seeing as to how driving is the most riskiest thing we do with ourselves over any other hazard out there. My son went to a funeral of a good friend 2 weeks ago who disregarded a stop sign and was t-boned by a semi. He didn't have a chance. One little mistake that so many people make cost him his life. Be patient my dear. Patience doesn't come easy but it is something you need to have throughout life. I do not worry about my sons driving==he is a good driver--I worry about everyone else on the road with him.

Honestly I don't think not driving is any safer than getting your license and driving. I've seen kids hurt or killed just riding in a car with another teen driver. No matter where you go there's always going to be crazy drivers out there. Teens aren't any better with their cell phones and stereo systems.

Sixteen is just way to young to get a drivers license. Yes I would prevent them. As far as Texas drivers go I know what you mean. Living in N.M. anytime some idiot pulls a really bone head maneuver I see Texas plates on the vehicle.

No, learning to drive safely and effectively is both part of growing up and teaching your children to drive safely is part of being a good parent. Granted I currently don't have children, I feel that when I do, it is my obligation to them to show them how to drive and how to do so in a manner that they will be good drivers for their lifetimes. No one can account for the actions of other drivers and yes, there are plenty of bad ones out there, but to shield your children from the hard facts of life is almost as reckless. Naturally no one wants to see their kids get hurt or in worse cases out live them, but part of growing up is developing trust and character and as a responsible parents, our jobs should be to develop that and sometimes let our kids take calculated risks that help them see for themselves what we are talking about.

PS: Some of the nuttiest drivers I've seen by far are in Florida. I grew up in New England and have family in NYC and although they are aggressive, they have some tact instead of what I see here.

I don't know if I would prohibit a child from driving, but I would probably limit the driving allowed. It may not seem fair, but think of it this way - It's only 2 years until you can get a license without your parents permission.

Try reminding your parents that they will need to drive you around if you are not allowed to get your license. But do it in a nice way with a pleasant voice.

tell them if u think its bad here go to mexico our 2 lanes here are like 4 or 5 out there just tell them to be glad o 1 More thing when u do get your license plz drive carefully and were ur seat belt

Well I can understand that reasoning, but I also think it is a bad idea to protect your kids from life..What do the parents expect the kids to do when they reach adulthood and leave home and have no driving experience???

I've lived everywhere and there are crazy drivers in every city. I wouldn't keep my kids from driving. That would be over protective.
