CKC-Canadian Kennel Club
AKC-American Kennel Club

These are the 2 biggest registries out there, but beware! Being papered means nothing when it comes to quality of the dog, it just means both parents were papered. Look for a breeder that keeps the dogs inside with the family, not in a kennel somewhere. Avoid pet shops like the plague. Research the breed you're interested in, and make sure your breeder is knowledgeable and enthusiastic about that breed. ALL pups should appear healthy, with bright eyes and clear noses, no sneezing or coughing. Always see the mother, and if you can, the father-make sure both are good representatives of their breed. And well-mannered. Ask how often the dogs are bred: it should NOT be more than once a year. Good luck.

CKC can mean Continental Kennel Club which is a terrible registry which backyard breeders and puppy mills love to register their puppies with. If you see a puppy registered with the CKC, make sure it is NOT with the Continental Kennel Club. Lots of pet store puppies are sold with CKC registry. Not a good sign.
There is also the Canadian Kennel Club, a much more reputable registry for Canadian dogs.
The AKC is the most common registry for the USA. It is very reputable except for some questionable policies. For instance, if you see a puppy for sale in a pet shop with AKC registry, you have to wonder how a puppy mill was able to register their dogs with the AKC without the AKC investigating it first.

Then you have the UKC which is another good American registry. The United Kennel Club holds just as many performance/conformation events and, IMHO, has better policies than the American Kennel Club.
The KC is the European Kennel Club. You will only have a KC registered puppy if you buy an import.

I believe the APRI (america's pet registry??) and the ACHC (american canine hybrid club) are both terrible registries catering to pet store puppy breeders, thus backyard breeders and puppy mills.
They claim to recognize any and all designer mutts and have terrible policies, if any policies at all.

Hope this helps.

Only accept a dog that is registered CKC if the papers say Canadian Kennel Club.. The other imposter club obviously used the initials to confuse people, CKC as in Continental Kennel Club.. They are not a legitimate kennel club.. They will register anything, no matter if you have a pedigree, know who the parents are, whether or not they are mutts.. It doesn't matter to them. Basically they are selling you a piece of paper that says you have a dog.. They in no way increase the value of your dog.

AKC is obviously the American Kennel Club. There is also UKC can be United Kennel Club it's imposter Universal Kennel Club. FIC is a imposter of FCI.

There are a whole bunch of them.. You should only accept a puppy that is registered with the Canadian Kennel Club, or the American Kennel Club.. Everyone else is just a scam..

CKC can mean Canadian Kennel Club which is a very good, very legit dog registry. It can also mean Continental Kennel Club or Canine Kennel Club which are worthless, scam registries. Dogs registered in these scam registries aren't really registered and in many cases not even really purebred. These types of registries are made up and used by those breeders who are irresponsible and can't register their dogs in a legit registry for one reason or another.

The only legit registries in the US:
AKC (American Kennel Club)
UKC (United Kennel Club)
CKC (Canadian Kennel Club)

Stay clear of any others.

some other initials that may be on a dogs papers:

ch = Champion
RN = Rally Novice (there are other "R" initials as well that stand for rally titles as they progress higher, rn is just the first one)
CD = Companion Dog (which is the first obedience title) 9there are other obedience initials after a dogs name as the dog progresses higher in obedience)
TDI = therapy certified with Therapy Dog International (there are also other therapy certification organizations)
CGC = AKC Canine Good Citizen

There are many other titles , far too many to list here..go to the AKC site and you can find a listing www.akc.org

CKC can mean either Canadian or Continental Kennel Club. If it's Continental, forget the puppy and find a reputable, AKC registered breeder. If it's Canadian, that's much better. Continental is not a legit registry and only used by backyard breeders and puppy mills.

If you are in the U.S. then AKC registered is what you want to see. But even AKC is not a guarantee of quality. UKC registered is what you'd want for Pit Bulls as they aren't AKC.

There are many initials on some dogs papers.

Google kennel clubs and titles to learn more.

Champion lines may not mean much either. A champion sire or dam is better.

Hi Sweetie, congrats on your desision, not one to be taken lightly!
I suggest doing reaserch and asking lots of questians to find a breed that suits you and your lifestyle, a fact that alot of people tend to overlook. CKC is your countrys kennel club..here they can direct you with breed, show (to talk to breeders and check out the different dogs) Other intials I am assuming you mean after and before the dogs name? Alot are different titles in coformation and different dog sports (ie agility, obedience etc..)

I cant stress enough, do heaps of reserch to find your new family member! Good Luck!

CKC is worthless. Unless the parents are registered through the American Kennel Club (AKC) there is no assurance it is a full blood representative of the breed.
