The longest running show was Gunsmoke as the first poster said. It lasted 20 years.
The second longest running show is Law and Order, they just finished their 17th season.

Er... Stargate (SG1) ? And Charmed.
Stargate I think is the longest running Sci-fi show and Charmed is the longest running ..... something show. I forgot, but I remember reading somewhere about it.
I mostly watch sci-fic and fantasy so general tv media and soap operas are out of my knowledge scope.
