Sensible breakfast is important. Something with milk and fruit is a good idea.
Then nothing til lunch. Have a lunch with protein - a couple slices of chicken in a salad, for example. Have a cookie.
Have a LITTLE snack in the afternoon - a cup of tea and slice of toast?
Have a SMALL dinner - with only 3-4 oz. of meat (believe it or not, this is a full serving - it looks like a mouthful!) and veggies.
CUT OUT: breads, all potatoes, sweets.
Good ideas: fat-free pudding / jello / DRINK LOTS OF TEA!! / fat-free milk.
Go for a walk for at least a half hour every day. This is good for the mind AND body.
Hope some of this helps.

Start with breakfast -- it really is the most important meal of the day because it gets your metabolism working -- and without your metabolism fired up you will not lose weight.
Aim at having 6 small meals in the day rather than 3 meals. This way your metabolism is always working consistently. It's when you start to 'starve' yourself between meals that your body says 'famine mode -- no food coming in, must store energy (as fat)'. When you eat the RIGHT food regularly there is no reason why your body needs to store fat because it knows it can simply burn everything you feed it.
Drink water - even when you're not thirsty, your body needs it. IT's when you are thirsty that you've already started dehydrating.
Exercise - whilst you can lose weight by eating carefully and sensibly, exercise will always assist you and there are long term benefits of exercise that will help keep you active until you're grey and wrinkly!
I personally don't cut out the things I love. I'm a chocoholic and I adore eating potatoes. In the past when I've tried to lose weight and have cut these two items out completly I have not lasted in my committment. Instead of totally getting rid of absolutely everything you love, perhaps you can eat really healthily for 6 days and have 1 day off where you indulge. Your weight loss will be slower but the benefit of doing that is you will probably be less inclined to binge when you're not supposed to AND in the long run, you may find that when you're allowed to eat all those naughty things you love, you might just not feel like it. Good habits are formed over a long period of time.
Watch your portion sizes - reduce your fat, sugar and carb intake, but don't go so overboard that your new eating plan is doomed to failure!
Good luck.

find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)
i have followed this for a couple of years - at first its hard to get rid of all the bad things in diet but then you get so used to that dont even want any junk.
