You feel someone else is controlling your actions.
Whoever it is, you want to be like them--probably because they are "cool".
However, you are not being true to yourself and who you know you are and should be.

I hate to overreact or freak out over something that is only a dream, but I have to say... if this were me, I would at least be inclined to do something like put a piece of tape or a thread or something on the doors and windows, without telling *anyone*, not even a sister or parent... just so you can assure yourself, if it happens again, that you are 100% sure it wasn't real and no one really came into the room. There's no way I'd just dismiss it, if being wrong means there's danger. From here, assuming it does turn out to be only a dream, I'm guessing that some repressed part of you has a message for you. Maybe something terrifying happened to you in real life a long time ago, and now you're preparing to remember it.

It is actually pretty common, just as it is common to dream that someone (like a spouse) is someone different even though in your dream you identify the person in every way as that someone. The key thing to look at is the source of the dream and what is going on in your life. What meaning does the person mean to you in real life? There is likely something about them that you fear or admire and would like to incorporate that into your own way of being.
You are likely going through a period of change right now. or your mind sees a crisis that you do haven't fully decided to accept/own up to yet.

I would say one of two things. You wish to be a different type of person - you are struggling with an issue in life and wish you could be a certain way to deal with it. The second thing would be you are simply seeing through another's eyes.
I'd say more the first though, our dreams represent what our subconscious is thinking.

you're not alone. i dream the same way. i think it might be because when we're awake, we constantly watch other people, as the observer, live their lives. and then when we dream, we get the chance to observe ourselves, which we cannot do in reality. the dream world is a fantasy.
do you like to people-watch and analyze others? we can do this everyday and offer people new perspectives on their situations or how they are living their lives. but it's hard to see our own lives through a different point of view. how cool would it be to replay everything you do or think back to yourself so you can watch it and study yourself? dreaming outside of our own skin gives us the opportunity to study ourselves. maybe get a new view on things. i think it's pretty cool! i also think it shows a bit of an artistic side because the role of yourself is played in your dream, but you are the director and are completely in control of the scene.

Could be your subconscious self trying to distance itself from your conscious self. You could be escaping the reality of your life by taking on a seperate identity. Or.....Do you see this other person (like in a mirror)? If not, sometimes a dream is in the first person perspective, it just doesn't feel like us.

I think that's pretty common. It happens to me all the time; half the time I dream that I'm a man, and last night I dreampt I was a ballet-dancing serial killer, lol.

maybe you see your self lots of diffrent ways. in your dreams you could be dreaming of yourself but all the diffrent break downs of your personality how all of your close friends and relations see you. and you mind is working out how you want to be seen to other people.
my father used to tell me that i was diffrent with everyone i talked to, that was never the same as a kid, consistantly. its because you change to be able to associate with other humans to find the common ground. everyone bends a little, to accomidate eachother maybe that is what you are really wreasling with in your sleep.

I have a dream book, and I looked up what I could from it, from what you have mentioned here.
It says, that when we are not ourself in our dreams, it means we are questioning some descisions we have made in our life....
Also, says if we dream of ourselves and its not us, in our dream, we are not completly happy with ourselves, and we are ready for change.
Hope this helps some...
