I have been very fortunate to be able to stay at home & raise my children. Both my husband & I worked very hard so I can do this. I am 47 yrs. old and have been looking for a job. I just get so intimidated by all the computer skills required to get a decent job. I just don`t have any confidence in myself. I use to be a bank supervisor for 8 yrs. Then I worked for another co. up until I had my daughter. I am very attached to my children but they are now 17 & 15 yrs. old and I really need to get my own life. Are their any other Mothers that can sugest a decent starter job. Is there anyone that can give me some advise on how they got back into the working field? Please Help! Thank You:)

That's so great that you have been able to stay at home with your children! I think that's so important. I'm a new mom and couldn't stand the thought of sending my little boy to daycare so I started a home based business. It's really legit - I wouldn't be doing it if it weren't. I've been doing this for a few months already and I'm already making enough to be able to stay at home with him and stil pay the bills. It's even registered in good standing with the Better Business Bureau. Anyway, this month they're having a special "promotion" where you can enroll for only $1. It's worth checking out anyway and if you're interested, you get 4 months to try it risk free. What more can you ask for? Here's the website that'll tell you a little more about the company. If you want more info, click on the "Request more information" link. Good luck!

Many of the skills you used in raising your children are skills that will be very useful in the workplace. One of the biggest things I see in moms, and often not in others, is the ability to juggle, and to prioritize on the fly and recognize what's most important. That might sound silly, but in many jobs is one of the most vital skills you can have.

It's pretty natural to be nervous after being out of the workplace for that long. You'll be fine.

For many jobs, computer skills at some level are needed. If you're a total novice, see if your kids can help you a bit - they almost surely know more about computers than you do. And by the way, what you'll need is probably on the level of word processing and very basic troubleshooting - you're not going to have to know how to build one! So if you already have skills on that level, quit worrying - if you don't, you can get there.

Volunteering, and temping, as suggested by some of the other people, can be a good way to get your feet wet, and to build your confidence and help you realize just how capable you are.

Good luck.

You noted, "I just don't have any confidence in myself". If you have the confidence to raise your children you have the confidence to advocate, care, maintain, keep schedule and follow up any concerns or issues etc. Personally, I don't think I can ever be a stay at home mom; How can I say that, I never tried. Don't underestimate your experience outside the home or at home. You can never know what you can do unless you try. Visit your community college/library/university to speak to a counselor. I'm sure your interest/ experience will find its place. Don't stress...

First, don't get panic, scaring yourself will block your sight. Visit your local city, state government and social organizations, such as, those for women and work skill training. You may find very helpful places & people (don't be shy, just speak out). Maybe you'll get enough support to start your own business if you have a good business idea & passion.

Don't! First you need to build your confidence. if you go find a job after 17 years it will be something you don't want to do, you will increase your stress level and neither you nor your employer will be happy. instead I suggest this method; first volunteer, anywhere, a hospital, fund raisers, meals on wheels, whatever, you will soon see the amount of networking that goes on and if you are good you will be offered good work that you will enjoy. good luck!

thebaltimoron said it well. in addition, oftentimes it is best that you get the feel of having a different work routine. this will help you realize if you really do need that to get your own life back. you might also realize that a job is not what you really need but something to do that would be worth your while.
