It is absolutely to our (the U.S.) benefit that our bordering countries are strong and it is imperative our borders are friendly.

Untied States cut off Canada would mean I pay triple the price for potato chips, and candy bars. With Mexico that is 300 billion in lost GDP without thier trade a year. Canada be around 600 of trade, and mutiply that effect thru the domestic economy would not be pretty. Yes, Mexico is curropt country that does not care for its poor people much, and that is why they come to the Untied States. Lumber dispute with Canada is a Joke because I was a house builder would not care where the lumber came from. If the hillibilles in Alabama cant grow or cut lumber better than the peeps in Alberta than the producer in Alabama needs to invest more time in growing trees, and buy better saws. The Untied States would surive standing alone, but the standard of living would drop fast, and we be living like the 1930s in short time.

We don't have to cut off all deals and trade, just NAFTA and 'integration' through SPP. We were friends and neighbors before those ever existed, and those things have caused problems. And we needen't take them together as countries, we can go deal by deal and say what works and what doesn't. I don't know about NAFTA's effect with Canada as much as with Mexico. It hasn't spurred the same illegal immigration in that direction, which is ruining our schools and services. It seems to me that by letting that amount of illegal immigration ruin our children's education, Mexico is being a bad neighbor and should worry about what we think of THEM, not the other way around.
--
cutting off deals that spur the other country's citizens to illegally overcrowd our schools and drain our domestic services isn't lack of humanitarianism. It is protection of our citizenry, which is supposed to be the first job of government. We can cut deals with countries that DON'T hurt our ability to educate and care for our own people, and still be as humanitarian as all get out.

Why are our people less important than theirs?

I am seeing the same thing.....We have lost our respect in the world due to our oppressive foreign policy.....We want to police the world, tell them what form of govt they must have, if they don't follow we put all sorts of pressure on them to conform.....If one criticizes this, you are deemed a traitor, get out of my country and all sorts of rants.....People in this country need to realize why we are the targets of terrorism....Its a crying shame...

And for the people saying Canada is our friend and not Mexico, just goes to show the ignorance and stupidity in this country....

As far as NAFTA, it hurt Mexico's economy big time....It only helped the super wealthy, but the middle class and poor got the raw in of the deal....It put many small business out of business and this is one of the reasons so many immigrants have flooded over here, they lost their jobs and smalll businesses.

Canada is your largest trading partner, if you don't need our gas its ok with me.
A lot of Canadians would like to see your cheap gas from Canada cut off, we'll use it, or sell it to China.
The US is a one way street anyway, ask the softwood lumber guys

Why do you think we need Mexico?
Why do we need to worry what Mexico of all countries, thinks about us?? They need us 10 times more than we need them. As a place to send their people of poverty if nothing else. "sarcasm".
Do you really think of Mexico as an ally?? ..and if you read the posts on here, and if they are representative of the general opinion, they hate us already. The illegal aliens are not coming here to adopt a new country, they are coming here to take what they can.
Did you see the beauty pageant?? They were booing and chanting Osama...who is directly responsible for thousands of U.S. deaths. Listen to the illegals here now...they hate us, hate the country, demanding rights they aren't entitled to because they are brainwashed that they ARE entitled to something.
Sucking this country dry, all the while, trying to conivince us that WE need THEM...for what?? To drive our wages down, and/or take our jobs?
What "talks" and "deals" are you referring to, pray tell that we need so much?

Are you insinuating that we need to kiss Mexico's a*s because WE need THEM?

Canada is our friend, not so Mexico.

What allies have we lost? Many have left Iraq, but we are still allied with them.

Name five, five would be many, but I'll bet you can't.

The countries that have pulled out of Iraq all fufilled there agreements to overthrow Saddam.

so, you suggest we let our borders stay as porous as they are now just so we dont piss off mexico. and canada, what, no canola oil? oh gosh!
canada is our friend and dont think it is not. you only hear the loud, whiny types, just like you do here, but internal government cooperates greatly. i think we could stand just fine alone!
