Just be careful. A regular, healthy, safe diet is just avoiding more sugary, high-in-fat foods and focusing on healthier, nutritional foods. While I don't have a top ten list (very sorry about that) I might be able to help.

Avoid foods that look like they could be healthy, but really aren't. Two of these foods are granola bars and fruit cocktail. While they appear to be healthier choices (and probably are compared to other "junk foods") they aren't top on the list. So, instead of munching on a granola bar or slurping up some fruit cocktail, grab some almonds - they're good for your heart. Or take some low-in-fat crackers.

Before grabbing whatever looks like it could be healthy, check the nutrition facts and ingredients, usually listed somewhere along the sides of the package or box. If "sugar" is in the first three ingredients, put it back on the shelf - unhealthy. Avoid high levels of salt and fat as well.

If you're absolutely craving something and you can't resist the temptation, here's a diet trick: eat a small portion of your craving, and then top it off by eating a larger portion of something healthy. And don't spend all of your time on the scale; focus on life and enjoy it. Your weight describes your body, but what matters more is having self-esteem and a warm personality.

XOXO,
Laurie

It kind of depends on what type of diet you are looking for. For instance, low cholesterol, low sodium, low fat, weight lose, etc. But in general here are some foods to avoid.
1. High fat fast food- (which includes most of the foods that are on a fast food menu- most restaurants have a very limited amount of healthy choices)
2. Any food products with trans fats on the label. Trans fats are extremely unhealthy.
3. Foods high in cholesterol and saturated fats. Eggs and meats can be high in cholesterol. Eggbeaters are cholesterol free and lean meat can be healthier.
4. Sugar candy and chocolate bars.
5. Bread products that are refined. Whole or multi grain products are best. Multigrains can be found in breads, pasta, or rice.
6. High sugar drinks like kool-aid or soda. Instead get diet or sugar free.
7. You should avoid a diet that's low in fresh vegetables and fruits.
8. Any diet that doesn't include good vitamin d and calcium should be avoided. If you don't like milk, yogart, or cottage cheese, there's always soy milk and soy beans.
9. Drinking alcohol should always been avoided on a diet because it's full of sugar.
10. Try to avoid heavily processed food if possible. Organic food is always better. Although it can be more expensive. So if you can't afford organic go for foods that aren't as heavily processed.

1> processed foods... they have way too much salt in them... you should stick with lean meats... Fish, chicken, lean cuts of red meat....

2> Any type of soda... even diet soda is not good on a diet....
try to drink plenty of water... I know you hear it all the time but... water is a catalyst it will help you flush the fat right out of your body, and help you not eat so much during meals... try drink a good amount of water at least 30 mins. before a meal or 30-1 hour after... Not during, it may dilute your stomach acid when digesting food.

3> try to stay on the outside lanes of the grocery store... once you go in towards the middle, there you will find the snack cakes!
Good luck and good question!

a diet isn't denying yourself food, but eating what you like in moderation. If you want icecream, have ice cream, but don't eat the whole carton (regardless of size). If you want soda, try the diet stuff. Instead of getting chips, get a glass of water and a piece of fruit/veggie.

Diet smart, not mean.

1: soda pop, this is probably your worst enemy when dieting
2: Big Macs, they are so high in trans fat that im suprised people dont die from smelling them
3: the whole twinky zinger family, they are full of trans and saturated fat
4: alright i know i only gave you three things which really make up about 10 items but the thing you want to stay away from is trans and saturated fat also just moniter how much food you are eating, don't starve yourself but don't stuff yourself either

Do not go on a diet because you will never stay on it in your lifetime. Diets don't work. It's a fad. The best thing to do is a lifestyle change, eat healthy and be active. Eat in moderation. Watch your food portion. I'm a work in progress myself. It's hard but it's doable. Good luck!

First off, rc_gromit was great on her answer. I just want to add something. Even not on a diet, eliminate all forms of fast food, except if you're getting a diet soda. It clogs your arteries, and has millions of grams of fat and calories.
