No, an A/B switch is just that, a switch. You can have one signal going through or the other. There are two ways to hook it up.
1. to connect two feeds (ie. dvd, cable) to one connection in the back of the tv. This allows either the DVD player or the cable connection to be on the tv.
2. to send one feed (ie. tv) to two different recievers (ie. DVD, VCR)

An A/B switch allows you to select a single source exclusively, or send a signal to one of two devices, exclusively. Splitters on the hand, are designed to take a signal and send it to multiple devices.
Most newer tv sets have at least 2 or more A/V inputs on the back panel. I would run the satellite A/V jacks (video, left & right audio) from the satellite box to the video1 audio1 on the tv, and the cable to antenna connector of the tv. If you don't have a second video in on the tv for your DVD , you can get an A/B switch for switching A/V sources, not cable tv sources. This would be the simplest solution. Sales person can help you with the details. Good Luck!

no, forget the a/b splitter and use the cable box to split all your signals, or a good VCR
