I personally wouldn't put a barbeque sauce on salmon. You could use a lighter sauce. Find a recipe for a sauce that goes well with fish. You should use something that won't kill the taste of the salmon. If you do use the barbeque sauce use very, very sparingly, like a thin coat brushed on each side.

Fresh orange, lime, or lemon juice goes really well with any fish.

I've never cooked salmon and put bbq sauce on it. Salmon has such a light flavor, that bbq sauce will over power it. You can use a cream sauce if you'd like though. Usually I take aluminum foil, sprinkle the salmon with some spices and lemon juice, close up the foil like an envelope and put it on the grill. After about 10 minutes it should be done. The foil will puff up with steam. You don't have to flip it.

Salmon is a very delicate fish , so it needs support on the BBQ grill. The foil wrapping is a good idea.
Sauce for salmon would be homemade Terriaki sauce made with ½ cup brown sugar
¼ cup soy sauce
¼ cup water
2 Tbsp. fresh lemon juice
baste with th sauce while cooking.

Personaly I think the best ways to grill salmon are:
Brushed with mayonaise ( not Miacle Whip or salad dressing ) and grill just until it will flake. or
Sprinkle with lemon or lime juice and fresh dill.

Don't, what you need is some Cajun spice that you can sprinkle on the fish before you put it on the grill. It gives you the grilled spicy flavor of BBQ without the sweetness. Bon Appetite.
