I am in no way saying that soldiers are not brave, but on commercials, they tell us that soldiers are dying for our freedom. I hate to break it to you, but no soldier has died for America's freedom since WWII. My brother is in the marines, and he agree's with me. He dosen't think we should be over there saying we are fighting for our freedom, because it's just a bumper sticker slogan.

This administration and its war have progressively and unrelentingly encroached upon traditional and very precious freedoms and rights, and they have done it by scaring the hell out of the public to make us dependent upon the wisdom and mouth-toughness of a "C" student president. You do not have more, you have less freedom now than before the war for freedom. Stay scared and see more drained away.

The war is being fought because an excessively poorly informed man believed that he could change an ancient culture he had no understanding of, because a group of venal men knew that billions of public money would be up for grabs to loyal Republicans, because Iraq, while no threat to the U.S., was a threat to Israel (Wolfwitz and his gang were and are zealous Zionists.) It is being continued because the poorest president the nation has ever endured is struggling to salvage what is called his "presidential legacy."

He was a flop as owner of a professional sport team (before he had ever had a real job) and as a business man. All he did as governor was to ruthlessly pursue the ideal of a one party state predicated upon oil money and a narrow world-view derived from a crude species of Christianity. Oh,yes he refused ever to grant clemency to criminals and condemned men, but watch the flow or pardons that will be signed for his rich criminal friends in the last days of his presidency. Just watch.

But once those poor guys on the killing-line are caught up in the killfest, what are they to do? You must have some means of justifying what you are doing and what is being done to you. Stay on course for your buddies, your gradually developing hatred of the designated enemy and your own survival. Otherwise you become an emotional casualty before you have time to reflect on it, and you may lose the respect and confidence of your buddies.

It's a quagmire as old as the word "general."

A Vet.

Our soldiers are in Iraq because Bush's daddy didn't finish the job. Iraq never attacked us. Afganistan is another story. Weapons of mass destruction, what a laugh. We are over there because of oil interests and nothing else. That our fighting men and women have lost lives for the selfish interests of so few is a disgrace. Bush is the worst president this nation ever had. In case you are wondering, I am a Republican and voted for Bush twice. May Almighty God keep your brother safe, and everyone else too. I returned from Denver recently. I sat across the aisle from a marine that had lost both legs in Iraq and had a bad wound on the back of his head. You hear about these things, and you see it on TV, but when you actually see it personally, it really hits home. I wish we were there protecting our freedom, but we are not there for that reason.

Well, actually, you could say that the last time soldiers died for our freedom was earlier than WWII. That was a European and Asian war. Even though the US was attacked (which was the grounds for our entry into the war), there was little jeopardy of loss of American freedom.

You're right, though. I'm sick of hearing the pundits (ie: Sean Hannity) talking about soldiers in Iraq dying for our freedom. This in no way impugns their service. The war is unnecessary, and certainly has nothing to do with American freedom.

Yes but people who have lost loved ones need(and deserve a good reason to have made such a huge sacrafice. although i am against the war I think it should be people like you and your brother that decide if this war should continue because it is you who are making the ultimite sacrifice.

yes its nice to think like john edwards, and propagate terrorism as just "a Slogan" "A Fear Tool" "Right Wing Propaganda" but i wonder how Free we would all be if we would be having suicide bombings here, istead of in iraq, or other countries. lets see you go take the subway, or go the movies, or any other thing that we take for granted in this country if that would happen on a regular basis. It is a disservice to the lives lost in 911 to think this threat will just dissapear.

its funny how liberals say "ITS ALL FOR OIL!!!" while they pump their tanks with record high gas prices.... Gods real good with Irony isnt he....

Everyday that we are over there we are fighting people that would give their lives just so that you would die. If that doesn't answer your question then your not going to get it.
