I'm Canadian. I think its getting very very close to being one though my American husband denies it. I find it very disturbing that the most powerful and influential country in the world is fast becoming the most disturbingly religious and heading in the opposite direction.
America is supposed to be about freedom for all, not about oppression by Christians of others.
Ugg... James, Canada has a Bill of Rights. We also don't let religion interfere in any way with the way our country is run, ever. There is no prayer in schools and Christians aren't freaking out about it here. Where do you Americans get this stuff? You think you know other countries, yet you learn nothing at all about us while other countries actually have classes focused on the US way of life. Until you know us, don't go posting things.

52 of our 54 signers of the Declaration were undeniably born-again Christians. Their lives have been minutely examined, and it has been found that of the 54, 27 had a theological education, one translated and published a Bible, and another became the first president of the American Bible Society. Not only that, the first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, John Jay, was also president of the American Bible Society.
If we go back to 1620 and the Mayflower Compact and the landing of the Pilgrims at Plymouth, we find the very birth certificate of America. In this charter they recorded their purpose—clearly stating that it was for “the glory of God and the advancement of the Christian faith.”
Our nation was birthed as Christian. If you are seeing a shift toward Christianty it is merely a return to our roots from years of abandonment and not "a takeover".

No. the US is far from having God rule the country. An example of a theocratic state in history was Israel during the Old Testament days-- the US is not even close to that.
