AN INTERESTING CONVERSATION.

An atheist professor of philosophy speaks to his class on the problem science has with God, The Almighty.

He asks one of his new students to stand and .....

Prof: So you believe in God?

Student: Absolutely, sir.

Prof: Is God good?

Student: Sure.

Prof: Is God all-powerful?

Student: Yes.

Prof: My brother died of cancer even though he prayed to God to heal him. Most of us would attempt to help others who are ill. But God didn't. How is this God good then? Hmm?

(Student is silent.)

Prof: You can't answer, can you? Let's start again, young fellow. Is God good?

Student: Yes.

Prof: Is Satan good?

Student: No.

Prof: Where does Satan come from?

Student: From...God...

Prof: That's right. Tell me son, is there evil in this world?

Student: Yes.

Prof: Evil is everywhere, isn't it? And God did make everything. Correct?

Student: Yes.

Does God exist?

Student: Yes.

Prof: So who created evil?

Student does not answer.

Prof: Is there sickness? Immorality? Hatred? Ugliness? All these terrible things exist in the world, don't they?
Student: Yes, sir.

Prof: So, who created them?

Student has no answer.

Prof: Science says you have 5 senses you use to identify and observe the world around you. Tell me, son...Have you ever seen God?

Student: No, sir.

Prof: Tell us if you have ever heard your God?

Student: No, sir.

Prof: Have you ever felt your God, tasted your God, smelt your God? Have you ever had any sensory perception of God for that matter?

Student: No, sir. I'm afraid I haven't.

Prof: Yet you still believe in Him?

Student: Yes.

Prof: According to empirical, testable, demonstrable protocol, science says your GOD doesn't exist. What do you say to that, son?

Student: Nothing. I only have my faith.

Prof: Yes. Faith. And that is the problem science has.

Student: Professor, is there such a thing as heat ?

Prof: Yes.

Student: And is there such a thing as cold?

Prof: Yes.

Student: No sir. There isn't.

(The lecture theatre becomes very quiet with this turn of events.)

Student: Sir, you can have lots of heat, even more heat, superheat, mega heat, white heat, a little heat or no heat. But we don't have anything called cold. We can hit 458 degrees below zero which is no heat, but we can't go any further after that. There is no such thing as cold.

Cold is only a word we use to describe the absence of heat. We cannot measure cold. Heat is energy. Cold is not the opposite of heat, sir, just the absence of it.

(There is pin-drop silence in the lecture theatre.)

Student: What about darkness, Professor? Is there such a thing as darkness?

Prof: Yes. What is night if there isn't darkness?

Student: You're wrong again, sir. Darkness is the absence of something. You can have low light, normal light, bright light, flashing light.... But if you have no light constantly, you have nothing and it's called darkness, isn't it? In reality, darkness isn't. If it were you would be able to make darkness darker, wouldn't you?

Prof: So what is the point you are making, young man?

Student: Sir, my point is your philosophical premise is flawed.

Prof: Flawed? Can you explain how?

Student: Sir, you are working on the premise of duality. You argue there is life and then there is death, a good God and a bad God. You are viewing the concept of God as something finite, something we can measure.

Sir, science can't even explain a thought. It uses electricity and magnetism, but has never seen, much less fully understood either one.

To view death as the opposite of life is to be ignorant of the fact that death cannot exist as a substantive thing. Death is not the opposite of life: just the absence of it.

Now tell me, Professor. Do you teach your students that they evolved
from a monkey?

Prof: If you are referring to the natural evolutionary process, yes, of course, I do.

Student: Have you ever observed evolution with your own eyes, sir?

(The Professor shakes his head with a smile, beginning to realize where the argument is going.)

Student: Since no one has ever observed the process of evolution at work and cannot even prove that this process is an on-going endeavor, are you not teaching your opinion, sir? Are you not a scientist but a preacher? (The class is in uproar.)

Student: Is there anyone in the class who has ever seen the Professor's brain?

(The class breaks out into laughter.)

Student: Is there anyone here who has ever heard the Professor's brain, felt it, touched or smelt it? No one appears to have done so. So, according to the established rules of empirical, stable, demonstrable
protocol, science says that you have no brain, sir.

With all due respect, sir, how do we then trust your lectures, sir?

(The room is silent. The professor stares at the student, his face unfathomable.)

Prof: I guess you'll have to take them on faith, son.

Student: That is it sir... The link between man & god is FAITH.

That is all that keeps things moving & alive.

WANT TO KNOW WHO THAT STUDENT WAS ?

You can view it through x rays. You can also view his degrees which is a requirement to teach.

Sorry, but you only have provided statements and not actual proof.

Oh yes, we can't see sub-atomic particles we can only trace where they have been and where they go. But they leave behind a trail of where they have gone. How come no creator has done that?

Very interesting. I believe god has to be defined first before discussing wether God exists or not. I don't think the same thing comes to all peoples minds when the word God is spoken. Some people think of a guy with a white beard in the sky, making approval/disapproval decisions about everything they do. Some people may think of a force that governs the universe. Some people view a harsh and punishing god while others see a more forgiving god and so on.
I also believe that no one can know absolute truth. The best we can do as humans is make models of the world around us. Models are only judged based on how accurately they reflect the world we perceive. Every model I've ever come across is at best a close approximation of the real world, and non-unique at that. Wether God did it or a magnetic field did it, I would ask which model works better? Maybe they both adequately describe the situation.
Either a model is useful or it isn't. Is your concept(model) of God helpful to you? Does it help you to negotiate this world and make good decisions or does it always seem to be leading you in the wrong direction and making you miserable?
A magnetic field is just a concept(model) that's useful for making predictions when dealing with moving charged particles. It may be an inappropriate(and very big) jump to make to assume it's a real, physical entity. I think, somebody correct me if I'm wrong here, but the concept of a magnetic field is no longer very useful at quantum scale distances.
I think God may fall into this same category.
I've recently read somewhere that there's no such thing as a "true model". "True model" is actually a contradiction in terms. So I think if your view(model) of the world is working for you, or even if it isn't, no one can tell you it's not the true, or the real view.

Do I know who the student wasn't? Albert Einstein.
This old myth has circulated for a long time among believers who know how to forward e-mails.
Always check out stories like this on Snopes before spreading them further.
(by the way, if God's omnipresent then there can be no place with an absence of God and thus evil would, by this definition, be impossible. Einstein was a pantheist, most likely, and as such considered all of us to be a part of God. To a pantheist none us could possibly be without God any more than a cell in our body could be without us. This smarmy, sophmoric response to the professor would not have come from a pantheist.)

Sad, just sad.
You can go from hot and cold to if God exists, you should be awarded fora Nobel Prize, Einstein.
Flaws in your theory:
1.Man DID NOT evove from monkey, every self-respecting scientist knows that. They just know they have the same ancestor, that's all. That explained why there is monkey and human.
2. Thought is just a series of brainwave motion that determines decisions. A computer is like a simplified version of that.
3. Evolution have been observed. Scientist released a spece of parasite fly on one of the Hawaian Island. The fly locates it's pray, the crickets, by the sound they make. After about 40 genarations, all the cricket on the island became silent.
4. From my experience, lack of something can be determined as the opposite of somthing. For example, rich to poor(money), Black to White (reflection of light), happy to sad(joyful emotion). Now you, on the otherhand, are trying to prove that the opposite of something is neve the lack of something. enough said.
5. Why does the professor have a brain? If he doesn't, he will be dead.(you can't say if God don't exist, we will be dead, because I see plenty of Atheists out there, and don't get me started on the dead soul thing". How do we know if someone don't have a brain, they will be dead? Try pry your brain out first, I'll give you another brain if you aren't dead. How do we know that we are alive? Easy, we absorbs energy, and release waste.
6. Darkness is somthing. Ever heard of Dark Matter or Dark energy?
So, in other words, there is no argument at all. Next time, try to solve all the paradox first before you paste something from the Internet, O Wise Person.

This is an age old question that we may or may never know even after death we may never know. According to science, and Athiests, He does not exist. According to religious types and people with faith, He does exist. According to Agnostics, He may or may not exist. But now back to the beginning, if He does exist, maybe one day He will show himself or let Himself known to the people, or in the Afterlife, as the Doctrine states, if you are good then you will be allowed in Heaven when God lives. Although it's also possible that there may not be an Afterlife but He still does exist for us to never know at all. Then there is also the belief that He does not at all exist nor does Heaven exist, this is the Athiest belief of what God is. For myself personally, I don't think I believe in Heaven, as much as I would absolutely like to, there is just nothing in my mind that will let me believe that Heaven exists and there are Angels with white robes and peace for all of the rest of your post life on Earth time. Although, I do believe there is a God, not the God that is in pictures with the white robe, long beard, halo, and everything else, but some form of higher entity that we don't know about and may never know about, but I believe there has to be something out there that is more powerful than anything else, some entity that basically in all other terms is...God.

*yawns*

Heard this soo many times. Can't believe you've written all that and I can't believe you advocate such crap.

Is this how you christians make up stories?

I hope this isn't the way bible was made up.

So, heat is absence of cold, so god exists? Hmmm...

I bet you'll say that student was Albert Einstein or something like that, and that is a lie too.

Einstein was a deist, not a Jew, not a Christian, not a Catholic. So just do some reading rather than bringing up these idiotic jokes.
