It could heal this world, and make it a better place to live....as long as the truth was spoken always with Love and kindness and compassion and empathy? Do you think that this kind of honesty and truth could also heal personal relationships?

I am not just talking about not telling lies. I am talking about revealing everything about who you really are, and all that you feel about yourself, and about them that you might normally keep to yourself. I am talking about not being afraid to be a totally open book.

I have just started reading a book by Neale Donald Walsch, and Brad Blanton, called Honest to God.....which deals with total honesty, and how it can heal if used right, and I am just curious about what people think of this idea!

Sometimes what we feel at any given moment is not what we really feel at all but a reaction. Sometimes it is better to wait and be sure that it is really something you feel and not just a reflexive emotional response before you express that feeling to another. You can do irreparable damage to a friendship or a relationship by reacting instead of relating.

Sorry, I disagree. Some people don't want to hear or know the truth. You know that boy your seeing? He's a 2 timer. Your new haircut doesn't suit you. Wow you changed (not for the better) There are some things it's just better to keep your mouth shut or 2 tell a little white lie. Does your boyfriend really need to know how many guys you dated before him? If your girlfriend cooks you dinner does she really need to know she needs a lot more practice?

There would be a lot more fistfights, and no one would get married, and I think pretty much everyone would be hopelessly neurotic.
Small lies spare feelings, and often avoid conflicts.
Of course, we've been lied to so largely, for so long, no one really knows what the truth is anymore.

I don't know, sometimes the truth hurts. Like when a little kid says Mommy look at him, his arm looks funny. Thats childish honesty but it hurts peoples feelings. Sometimes the truth hurts. It's better to keep some things to yourself.

Not all truth can be told with kindness. How can you be kind when telling someone they are fat, or ugly, or annoying, or stupid? How would a racist be compassionate when telling a black person he hated them? How would this make the world any better? I think it would destroy civil society and make social interactions very unpleasant!

sometimes our truths can hurt others
I keep a lot to myself for fear of upsetting people who believe differently to myself
it is the whole " does my bum look big in this "
do we tell them ?
