The best camera for under $200 is the Canon A550

* 7.1 Megapixel
*4X Optical Zoom
* Very good photo quality, noise levels low through ISO 400 (in good light)
* Well built for the price
* Very good performance
* LCD visible in low light
* Some manual controls
* AF-assist lamp, good low light focusing
* Good movie and continuous shooting modes
* Impressive software bundle
* Uses AA batteries; great battery life

Even though I personally own this camera, I would still like to highly recommend the purchase of a Nikon Coolpix L10 for the following reasons:

1. Besides taking well-exposed hi-quality 5 megapixel pictures, it uses a standard set of rechargeable double AA batteries which last a very long time;
2. Has a 3x optical zoom;
3. The flash setting for "red-eye" correction is on the navigator wheel and not within a submenu;
4. It's very small and light;
5. Uses inexpensive SD memory cards;
6. The digital video feature takes wonderful "sound" videos which are noise free. It records the piano very well with it's built-in microphone;
7. It comes with a USB 2.0 transfer cable which you connect to your USB computer port;
8. And the price is a mere $120 [sold at Samy's Camera, Staples.com.]

Good luck!

i dont know exactly how well they work, but Casio digital cameras are REALLY slick looking and i think run from $250.00 to $300.00.

i have a Kodak EasyshareV550, and its a great camera overall. its slick looking i guess, but its easy to use and you can video tape on it too, although the video is not the best quality. The photos are great quality!

good luck!

You should get the Olympus Sp350. It's loaded with features and its probably as good a camera as you're gonna get in the price range. Another one that I would recommend is the Canon A630. It's also one heck of a good camera. I believe both retail at the upper end of your budget but they should be great cameras to get you into serious photography.

I just got a Canon A710is from www.newegg.com for $249.99 + shipping. Typical Canon, excellent camera. I have a Canon A700 that I absolutely love, so when they came out with the image stabilized version it was a no brainer.

kodak easyshare v610. 6.1 megapixels, 2.8 inch LCD screen. what makes this special of all those cameras including 10 megapixel cameras out there is that this has 10x OPTICAL ZOOM, this is the world's smallest digital camera that has this high optical zooms (almost like SLR capabilities).
