What's wrong with it? You need to be more specific so we can really help.

If it's dark and hard, then you need to get some lotion or Aquaphor on it right away. A scab has formed over the top, and you need to keep it moisturized for it to come back off properly. And DON'T SCRATCH!

If it's flaking off, that's fine, you just need to give it more time to heal. Once it's done flaking, you'll be able to see the real, finished product. It may seem like the color itself is flaking out, but it's not. Mine always seem like that (I have 8) but the color has always been fine underneath. Just remember- DON'T SCRATCH!

If the scab is off already, but there are blotches where the color came out, you need to return to the shop where you got it, and have them touch it up. They'll likely do it for free if you come back quickly. My shop's policy is within 1 month of the original visit.

If it really looks like crap- shaky lines, bad coloring, etc.- then you probably didn't use a very good artist, and might need to look into getting it re-done by a real professional. If that's the case, I hope you didn't pay for it!

For starters, I have 3 tattoos. And sure they're gonna look like crap for the first week because your skin is forming a protective barrier on it. Also known as a scab. So what I did was make sure I lotioned it like with Curel or use something with no parfumes or dyes in it. Also DO NOT PICK at it! Or else it will bleed and mess up your tattoo. And after it does heel, make sure you use sun screen, or else the ink will fade. Even years and years down the road, don't let it be exposed to direct sun without sun block on. So don't worry, but yeah, tattoos are a lot of work to take care of!

Well first your tattoo artist should have given you a aftercare sheet with all the info of step by step aftercare. If your tattoo looks plasticy or white and scabbed or all of the above, no worries, these things are normal.
You should be washing it ONCE a day (i always do it right after a shower, so that any residue from shampoo or body wash gets cleaned away especially if the tattoo is scabbed to the point where it is cracking or has cracks)
Every so many hours or when the tattoo seems dry you should liberally apply a THIN!!!! layer of one of the following :Tattoo Goo-A&D Ointment or Bacatracin.
DO NOT EVER USE VASELINE-COCOA BUTTER OR NEOSPORIN as all those things are very thick and greasy and will not allow oxygen to get to the tattoo making it take longer to heal.
Make sure when u apply the stuff its not overly shiny. If its real shiny you applied to much.
Remember you dont wanna smother the tattoo and less is really more in this situation.
Good Luck

u need to explain more in your question. did u get it rofessionally done or by a scratcher? And what r u doing to take care of it? what exactly is wrong with the tat?

*put some unscented Aquaphor on ur tat 3x (or as needed, always keep it moist, but not too much) a day for 5-10 days or until healed.
*take some Mulitvitamins and Vitamin E, they help with the healing process. take 2 of each every morning.
- vitamin E, u eat with ur breakfast
- Multivitamins, u swallow w/ water after eating
-do this every morning until ur tat is healed (the vitamins aren't neccessary, but they do help
*when taking a shower, make sure u GENTLY clean it with soap and rinse off very good. PAT dry, do NOT rub. and dont let anyone else touch it or lick it (hey, i've seen it done) until its finished healing

* ur tat will start to peel and fade, dont worry, this is part of the healing process, all it is is dry skin and excess ink. just dont pick at it or peel off loose ends. messing with it will make it scar and you'll have to get it re-done. it will get extremely itchy, do NOT scatch it, u can pat it, but dont scratch

You are taking care of it just fine, that is the scabbing process. Mine looked like crap for like two weeks and then the scabs came off on their own and it went back to normal and flat. Keep it lotioned, don't scratch, and let your tattoo heal on it's own. If you have any serious questions call or go back to the shop and ask them. They are the best judges of what is happening. Good luck, I bet it will look fine in another week or so.

it may not be what you are doing to take care of it but the talent or lack there of of the artist that you chose to permanently alter your skin. also, it has only been a week. it isn't healed yet so how do you know if it actually looks horrible? i got my tattoo worked on four days ago and it looks kindof wrinkly and dull because of the scabbing.

What's wrong? My first tat, I got a rash because I used to much ointment. My 2nd tat, I used little ointment then a light moisturizer with suncreen & I didn't have any problems.

is it just the scab coming off? if so it will look fine soon enough. just keep applying your cream or tea tree oil to help with the healing, don't get sun burn and try not to irritate it by picking or scratching

ok so you should probably go back to that place that you got the tatoo at and ask them if they have any suggestions or ointments for it...also ou should ask them if the tatoo's ink has some kind of chemicle reaction when u use i don't know a kind of lotion, cloths detergent, soap, shampoo, make up(like glitter stuff) or if there is a fume at your job (lets say you are a hair dresser or nail person heck a dentist) and if they don't know that ask them what kind of ink it was,and what kind of needle and go to the chosmetologist
