Do you think we will have a war with North Korea or China in the next 20 years?

Mabye both I am not trying to be one of those people who always gravely predicts WWIII on here and looks stupid but what are the chances, would it be a world war or nuclear war or what?
Think we will win?

With North Korea? No. North Korea is irrelevant and they know it. Even China sees them as a pest! North Korea knows that if they launch their 3 (or however few they have) nuclear missiles against a US site, we'd nuke them completely off the map! They don't have a death wish so they won't do anything. The only thing they could potentially do that is scary is sell/give those missiles to someone who WOULD be willing to use them on us. Someone with a death-wish...ya know, like Osama for instance?

China, on the other hand, is scary! With their growing population, industrialization, modernization, and technological advances, they are fast becoming the next world power. Considering the fact that human population growth is exponential, resources are finite, and human society is moving farther and farther towards self-destructive consumerism, this poses a potentially huge problem. To sum it up simply: resource war. Couple this with the adverse effects of global warming (regardless of the causes of such warming) and you've got a ticking bomb, in my opinion.

Will we win? Well, the last time we got into a major ground war with North Korea (and therefore China too, albeit unofficially) the best we could manage was a draw. And China's come a long way since then; For one thing, they are our new "landlord" with regards to our national debt! So go figure?

And people wonder why my wife and I don't want kids...

I doubt we'd have a war with North Korea that didn't involve China somehow. If we attacked N.K. China might be drawn in. The Chinese have a testy relationship with N.K., but they are their cheif sponsors.

In the event of a war with China the win/lose thing gets interesting. Such a war might draw in other nations, a WWIII where everyone loses. China is very cagey and pragmatic. They would not start a war unless they were pretty certain of victory. If we were the aggressors, there would first be a loong period of sanctions. During that time, China could wield it's economic big stick on us - just like the US won the "cold war" with Russia, China might keep the war cold to win in the end -- economically. Why in the hell should the U.S. b afraid of North Korea, or Iran. Kim needs to grow up (literally as well). It would only take a few nukes to wipe that small country out. Ahmadinejhad talks nonsense he can't back up. He is living on borrowed time. His nuclear capability is a joke, but I have to admit we might have trouble with his ground forces. China on the other hand is no joke, they have nukes, and a helluva lot of people.

Socio-economically speaking, China is one of, if not the, fastest growing economy on the globe.

When people have money and success, they tend to be less aggressive.


N. Korea on the other hand is anyone's guess. I have been reading about Kim Jong Il's son who is being groomed to take over. Supposedly he's very tolertant and some say a "fan" of the US (our food, our music, our creativity, and our way of life).

WE live in a world of turmoil. Our biggest adversaries, Russia and China have made it a practice of stirring things up against the US with surrogates. In 1950, it was N.Korea, with China covering its back. In 1965 it was Vietnam, with China and Russia covering it back.

Today, Russia has Syria and Iran doing its nasty deeds, while China is still pulling N.Korea's chain.

The two super powers realize it would all be over but the crying, if they decided to confront the US directly.

It's impossible to say who the next confrontation will be against, but it's certain that the only thing that works is complete and total devastation of an adversary. We cannot allow our country to get bogged down again, like we have in Iraq !

This is not to say that we should bomb the crap out of Iraq, but it is to say that we give Iran and Syria just one warning. That warning will be that total aggression will befall them if they don't cease and desist from their clandestine actions against the US. That of keeping a perpetual supply line of arms, munitions, and insurgents, flowing into Iraq.
