There are no easy answers, and everyone is different. But it sounds to me like maybe you're suffering so much because you are possibly overwhelmed by everything. Do you think it might be helpful to focus on the basics? Sometimes people in situations similar to yours, find it helpful to focus on going to bed at the same time every night, getting up at the same time every morning, and structuring the day from there.
What as you see it is causing you the most stress? Find one way to improve that one area. Usually success in one area can rejuvenate you, and motivate you to make positive changes in another area. Success often breeds more success.
Start small. If you can't decide where to start, I'd recommend starting with the messy apartment. No one likes to live in a mess, it tends to zap your energy. Do you have a good friend who might be able to help you sort through the mess. This in itself can be very therapeutic. I recommend these books: Apartment Therapy and It's All Too Much. These books have step-by-step instructions for conquering clutter, and getting your apartment clean.
*** Remember small changes made over time can really add up. Start small and do just one thing today. Clear off one counter top, then stop. If you feel like you could do another go for it!!

Hi
I recently just cam out of this funk. Boy can I relate.
Well I worked hard with my therapist to come up with a plan and work it in small steps because the big picture was way too overwhelming and I would just throw my hands up and walk away. No matter how hard or often I tried. I couldn't. So instead of doing what I knew I should be, I spent that time crying, literally over it.
But we made a 7 day schedule even thoughI am very ocd and extremely ritualed, she made me write it all out. in the time blocks I was to list and block time spaces for these thing, even drive time and so foreth. In session we really tweaked the final draft. Then came Monday 1st day of week 1 trial. I was to stick to the agenda at all costs except of course emergencies.
So the time periods that I blocked off throughout the week actually did help to my surprise. Now I make a weekly at home agenda, fill in accordingly hang it right in front of my desk and I also use a plain kitchen timer to help me keep on track for my different time slots and the amount of time blocked off for each chore.
I hope I did not confuse you. I really do hope that you found this a little helpful.

I feel the same way but I found out that if I try to do even one little thing, like wash the dishes, I feel a bit better. some days are harder than others so even the dishes only get half done.
I tell myself look how much better things look after I clean up or pay a bill....in someways that is all it takes to get going on some harder things I've been putting off, like wash the walls and shampoo the carpet....yes, just what I need to do but I'll settle for mowing the yard ....
smile, I'm trying to do the same thing you are. If I can do my dishes, you can put down the sandwich and we'll race to run the sweeper......

Talk to your doctor. you may be clinically depressed. And you may need to realize that there are things you cannot change. The bills will keep coming. If you have kids, the house will always be chaotic. And you know what? As long as your apt is not dirty, so what? Mess is OK. I've heard that creative people are usually quite messy. As for the food, you might be using it as a comfort. stock the cupboards with healthy and a FEW bits of junk food. If you deprive yourself of it it will be over before it starts. Good luck.

The only way out is to walk out. Start doing the things you don't want to do. Pay bills on time. Clean something in your apartment everyday and doing something for fun at least twice a week.

What motivates you and why? Write this question down and the answer(s).
If I'm psyched up for a movie that I rented, I'll clean the house up beforehand so that I feel good about watching it.
Try a walk real early in the morning to let your mind relax.

any sort of depression can be tide over by faith in GOD and sincere prayer.
Your prayer is from your heart. Further You must have to understood the fact that God is present in our heart. This can be realised in meditation. Further we are the creation of our own destiny. As per Hindu sacred religion, we carry all good and bad deeds life after life. There is no end unless we pray for unification of self with the divineliness.
Hence there is always a possible way to complete mergence with God in this life by a simple and wonderful meditation

Get some sunshine, take a stroll, then come back and clean out your apartment. Toss out your junk food during the cleaning, go to the store, buy healthy stuff that tastes great, and you'll feel better, leading you to perform better in life.

Take one step at a time. Slowly clean your apt. Cut down on spending a little. The way I find it is, sleep earlier, wake up earlier and get more done. Wake up, do a little exercise and have breakfast. Change your lifestyle little by little.
